On 14 December 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Baghaichari and Dighinala following the death of a settler named Mohamed Sattar. An indigenous woman named Chikon Mila Chakma was killed in Dighinala and at least 10 indigenous people were injured. Mr. Shanti Priyo Chakma was one of the indigenous victims.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Zaksha Bazar

On 3 August 1985, Bangladesh army of 305th Brigade led by Naib Subedar Mohammad Tofazzal Hossain of Zaksha Bazar Army Camp raided the indigenous Buddhist village Balukhali in Zaksha Bazar, Rangamati district. During the raid Bangladesh army indiscriminately beat and tortured indigenous Buddhist people. The victims are:

  1. Hridoy Kunda Chakma (50), son of Chandra Mohan Chakma of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. He was rounded up in his house and taken to army camp where he was beaten and tortured.
  2. Gopal Chandra Chakma (27), son of Krishna Mohan Chakma of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. He was falsely suspected of being a Shanti Bahini member and beaten till he was unconscious.
  3. Ramesh Chandra Chakma (26), son of Surajoy Chakma of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. He was inhumanly tortured.
  4. Bheda Chakma (29), son of Kali Charan Chakma of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. He was severely beaten.
  5. Niranjoy Chakma (25), son of Doya Mohan Chakma of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. He was severely beaten.
  6. Raj Kumar Chakma (30), son of Surajoy Chakma of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. He was beaten and tortured.
  7. Sananda Chakma (15), son of Krishna Mohan Chakma of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. The school boy was not spared from their brutality.
  8. Krishna Mohan Chakma (53), of Balukhali, Zaksha Bazar. He was mercilessly beaten till he became senseless.
