On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Bengali Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.


Bangladesh Ansar torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari

On 9 July 1985, Bangladesh Ansar (Islamic Guards) personnel from Baghaichari Camp rounded up the inhabitants of Thali Para in Baghaichari, Rangamati district at 3 a.m. All the men were gathered at a paddy field where they were beaten enmesse. Then Ansar personnel sorted out young and old men. Some were set free and some were subjected to further beating and torture. The victims are:

  1. Kamala Kanta Chakma (32), son of Kandara Chakma of Thalipara.
  2. Karun Chakma (35), of Juronya Chakma of Thalipara.
  3. Kalachan Chakma (22), son of Kadu Chakma of Thalipara.
  4. Mema Khula Chakma (35), of Thalipara.
  5. Krishna Mohan Chakma (23), son of Biraj Moni Chakma of Thalipara.
  6. Sapya Chakma (19), son of Mohar Chandra Chakma of Thalipara.
  7. Forajoy Chakma (20), son of Kadirafa Chakma of Bagan Para.
  8. Pandikya Chakma (26), son or Chikon Kazi Chakma of Thalipara.
  9. Juronya Chakma (70), of Thalipara.
  10. Doyamoy Chakma (50), son of Terepya Chakma of Thalipara.
  11. Kala Kachu Chakma (25), son of Gula Kana Chakma of Khengotya Karbari Adam.
  12. Bilechya Chakma (22), son of Sadhonya Chakma, of Khengotya Karbari Adam.
  13. Jwalendra Chakma (65), of Thalipara.
  14. Jalyamoy Chakma (28), son of Jwalendra Chakma of Thalipara.
