All right. Everyone knows that I always get against popular people, but just to show that I know what goes on, I’ll write about all the things they go through. And no, I wasn’t forced against my will by a blond bimbo chewing bubble gum and wearing the latest fashion to do this…sorry, that slipped in.

First thing, they have to be popular. They have to do a lot of stuff in order to be popular. One person, who will remain nameless, told me about most of the things I am writing about. She had to go through a grueling initiation in order to get in one popular group. Another person told me that she was hazed and she would’ve gotten in, but she backed out because she didn’t like what they did to her. The price of being popular was too high that time. I’m not saying that every clique has that initiation, but a lot do.

Once someone gets into the group, they have to act a certain way in order to stay popular (by getting into the group, the member already make you popular because you’re seen with them). Be snobby to the unfashionable, only act nice to smart kids when you need their help. Most of them talk back to teachers, so the newbies do too.

Plus, they always have to be in style. If not, they risk getting talked about behind their back by member and maybe even kicked out. My source told me that in the group she is in, each person would get about two chances to change their image if were wearing something three months out of style, and they were being lenient. If you happen to be wearing a regular army shirt, you would out of style because the blue army shirts are currently in style, at least here in Taylortucky. So now you get a chance to come to school with the blue army shirt. If the next day you walk in with something else not currently in style, then you get one more chance to make it up. After that, you’re kicked out until you know what’s fashionable.

If you’re fashionable, you might as well be cool, right? When one popular person smokes, it becomes a chain event. Everyone will think that person looks cool (Sure they look cool getting black lungs. Who wouldn’t look cool?) so they want to do it too. I know, you’ve heard it before, but when you actually get asked it might not be that easy. So then it becomes a whole peer pressure thing and since the new ones just got in, they want to stay in and they take up smoking and/or drugs.

They also have to deal with people like me who don’t take them seriously. Because they are popular, some of us unpopular people look down on them. If you just watch them from afar, they look dumb. They twirl their hair in their hand, chew bubble gum, wear too much makeup, say stupid phrases such as, “Whatever”, “Talk to the hand”, “Like, yeah, you know, whatever”, and “That is so last week.” I know some popular girls who talked about what one of the teachers was wearing all hour. Didn’t even attempt to do any of their work. They just seem so dumb, but some aren’t really like that. Some actually used to be smart, but now that they are popular and talk all hour, they are behind and don’t know as much as they could. They(meaning some) only pass because they copy off of other people.

Actually, another thing I’ve noticed is that they probably get picked on more than anyone else. Not only do they get picked on by the smart and unpopular kids(but we’re easily taken care of if they chase us with blush brushes and hairspray), they get picked on by the popular boys too. One girl, named Jessi Delaney, a popular person sat in water and it looked like she had gone to the bathroom. So of course all the popular boys made fun of her, but no one else, not even the smarties, made fun of her. Another time, that same thing happened to a non-popular girl and no one said anything. In fact, they felt bad for her. If Jessi trips, it would be 10x worse than if I tripped. Someone would probably help me up and would help gather my papers, but people would just make fun of Jessi.

So maybe now everyone can see just who popular people really are. Yeah, maybe they just turned out that way, without the dire need to be popular, but some people think that they’ll be better people if they are popular, which isn’t true all the time. Some are smart, some just needed a change. Now you can see how popular people are treated and why they do what they do. They just want to be liked, if only by 20 to 30 people throughout the school.
