NHS Scams Students Out of Rightful Place

NHS Scams Students Out Of Rightful Place

Back To The Watchers Connection

I’m sure you’re all familiar with the National Honors Society program (more commonly known as NHS) that runs through the high schools across the United States of America. NHS says that they represent equality and leadership among students with a 3.555 or higher grade point average. Well, believe it or not, that’s just not true.

I’m a good student with a 3.779 grade point average. About a week ago, the NHS gave me a few forms to fill out to be ‘qualified for admittance to the National Honors Society’ and to ‘be reviewed by the National Honors Society council.’ Yeah, sure, okay, I’ll fill out a few forms.

What does the NHS want, really? They want you to have enough money to get rides everywhere and do community service. They want you to be able to have at least five leadership positions. They want you to have at least ten awards in your job/workplace. And that’s while you’re still a freshman in high school.

So, I fill out my forms. I have just about seven leadership positions filled in, but no community service because I’m not old enough to drive yet and my dad takes our only car to work with him everyday from 8:00AM to about 5:00PM. I have no way to get anywhere.

A week after filling out the form, I get a notice saying that I ‘lack in leadership qualities and community services.’ Okay, I’ll admit that I do absolutely nothing for my community, but no leadership? I had seven out of ten spaces filled in with things such as Section Leader in band and First Soprano and Section Leader in Choir, not to mention my leadership qualities sent in by my teachers.

Here’s a question to send you on your way: NHS; friend or foe, equal or not? You decide.
