I just read the latest Wordin offering regarding sigs out there.

I know you've been gone for a while and whatever.

Do you have to undermine me AGAIN?

Read the damned thread on sigs for what was agreed on before you run your mouth out there. We agreed up to 4, as per Lisa. If you don't like it, bitch in here to her or to us, not make trouble out there. I've had a helluva time even getting the damned thing ironed out and things settled down and I sure as hell don't want it starting up again.

Well, if I'm wrong in my interpretation myself, please tell me, too, Bonzie. To me, Wordin's just being a dickhead now, which is his intent.

3 lines = good.
4 lines = we'll ignore it.
5 lines = ask to shorten.

The thing's giving me a f@&%ing headache right now. Geez, let's just permaban Wordin and be done with it.

Demiurge, I think you're right, in retrospect. With an anal-retentive troll like Wordin, we've no choice but to either enforce 3 or 4 but the rule HAS to match what we're enforcing.

Randy - did I see you counting the sig divider as a line, or were you enforcing three as a limit? (Sorry, forget which thread it was.)

No fucking shit. Every other person asked shortened it without complaint. Only this clown had to make a big song and dance.

**growls at C and L for not banning him ages ago**

I thought the thread with Lisa's response was the last word on the deal. Heaven forbid.

Anyone else notice in the past week that ALL OF A SUDDEN he is starting to make worthwhile posts in Trek fora for the very first time? If I didn't know better........

I was enforcing five. There's a blank line between line 3 and 4 of his sig, isn't there? That makes a four line sig 5 lines, right?

Damn, I went back and checked, and I said THREE. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

*sigh*

And looking at it on the bedroom computer, there doesn't appear to be a blank line between his third and fourth line.

Re: Susannah

Well, I just checked Linda's computer (the one I was using earlier when I made my comments to wordin). She has it set to large text because she has astigmatism pretty bad, and she has changed the font to microstyle. Wordin's sig got mangled by the monitor, and I have removed my request he reduce his sig length.

But knowing him as we all do, he'll make an issue of it anyways. This is why I was stressing that sig length is (like it or not) a gray area. Monitors, fonts, font sizes, resolutions and hiccups in the graphics cards are going to cause some variation. See The God Thing's thread for an example.

**laughs at Orion Randy**

My font is set to large, because I'm blind as a bat anymore, even with reading glasses.

But for sigs, if they look suspect, I change it down to medium to check it. If it's too large then, THEN I ask them to change it.

Damn Wordin to Hell anyhow. I never had to mess around with sigs before his interference. Blast!

Folks, don't let the twerp manipulate you. That is precisely what he is doing. WHile you're spenidng all your time debating him, you're not able to focus your energies on more pleasant and reasonable people and activities. Ignore him and if he complains, ignore him some more until he has somethign of substance to say that doesn't involve such whininess. He is simoply using this incident to make the TrekBBS look bad and then go back to TK2 to crow about it.

Oh yes, I noticed that.... first thing that crossed my head was that he was posting in all the fora, just to see how many times and by which mods he would be asked to shorten his sig, heh.

The guy is in drastic need of a life....

He has posted relevant actual Trek related comments before this latest of his escapades. I will give him that.

I suggest we limit or comments on this individual in here. One day this is liable to be leaked and his ego will end up with its own zip code.

I agree. I have been ignoring him (or at least tried to) for a couple of months now and it did wonders to my blood pressure. Sometimes I post the odd (snide) remark but that's it. I won't reply to his threads seriously anymore. The guy will twist your words and make you look like the bad guy. Entertaining his threads will only serve to inflate his already huge ego.

Bonz, I thought he had five lines when I looked at it. It was never my intent to undermine anyone. But Neroon is right. I don't see the problem with just telling people to abide by the rules and be done with it. We've had like six threads on this between QSF, MA, and the BR, with no need. The rules have specified for some time now that sigs should 2-3 lines. The potential for ugliness with wordin should not dissuade any of us from holding him to the rules. Furthermore, if 4 lines is going to be our real limit, I think the rules should be edited to reflect that. Fuck this grey area grace period bullshit. If it's 3 lines, it's 3 lines. If it's 4, it's 4. Jesus.

Well according to the discussion the other day, it was agreed that we would slide up to four. To be honest, two or three as it was written would have been fine by me.

I'd prefer it to be written into the rules, that being the case, but in all honesty, I just don't think that is going to happen.

All I want is for us all to be enforcing it equally, so that folks who are out there whining about it will shut up already. And it seemed that it had been agreed by Lisa that it 4 would be the most allowed.

There's one solution to this whole problem. Let's give it up already! How did this get started? Why did we have to start caring about this? Why did we have to start enforcing this??? It's the most ridiculous thing in the world! So someone has a sig that's 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 lines long. Who cares? It's not going to bring the board to a halt! Let's just let it slide. Let's focus our attention elsewhere. I would agree if someone had a sig that was excessively long, but anything less than eight shouldn't hurt us.

What next? Making sure members use correct punctuation in their posts?

Rob, so you are saying that anything less than 8 is ok? Because that is 'ridiculous?'

What if it's over 8, and we ask them to change it, and they say, no, because everyone else can post over 3 too - because it says 3 in the policy.

If you have a standard - which we do - then enforce the standard. Just make sure you put down what the standard is so there isn't any ambiguity - like there is now.

Pick a number. Put it in the policy. We are done.

Let moderators pick and choose whether or not to enforce it or what number they happen to like in their forum and yes, without a doubt we will continue to see such threads.

Maybe the new software will make this moot. Maybe it won't - I don't know. But if we don't want to be trolled about our rules, we should make our rules consistent, and hopefully they will be both interpreted and enforced consistently.

My main point is that we should have never started enforcing this. That's what is completely ridiculous. This board had been running for well over three years without this ever becoming a problem. Why? Because we never enforced it. Perhaps a friendly reminder here and there.... but that's about it.

To me, it would be like a cop giving someone a ticket for doing 81 KPH in an 80 zone.

The problem Rob is that if you create a rule and don't enforce it then it's a rule that needs to be removed from the rules. Otherwise, you are selectively enforcing the rules. Until all this with wordin blew up, I strictly enforced a 5 line limit and that was after the last discussion on this matter. If you choose to ignore one rule, then the members can rightfully complain that you're being arbitrary.

Yes, I don't agree with the rule. I think 5 lines max is better than 3 or 4, but it's not my board, and I've voiced my opinion, but the decision was made. So I'm enforcing the 4 lines max. Only one person has complained: The God Thing. *shrug*

Sure, it's a minor infraction, but when you've got folks like wordin who are so anal-retentive over the matter, then you've got no choice but to do something.
