Hairy threads
      #355939 - 2002/09/04 12:10 AM

Y'know, I kind of have to agree with the points brought up here.

quote:
From Mutai Sho-Rin:
1: Body Parts - Early in the Enterprise run, a lot of threads extolling the virtues of characters boobs, pecks, "pitched tents", etc. sprang up. It became standard practice to squelch those lest they become both too provocative and too numerous.

Well, I can see that for boob and dick threads. But people's hair?

quote:
2: Worship Threads - A de-facto agreement arose among Mods and Ragers (sounds like England in the 70s) to limit character based threads to one per character. Since there are existing Archer, Tucker and Reed threads, the hairy issue should probably exist therein. Post all you want on the subject in an existing thread.

I don't remember setting a numerical limit on the Rager threads.

quote:
3: Copy Cat Threads - No sooner than one Body Hair thread appears, others will pop up like mushrooms. We do try to keep a lid on excessive repetition so it is possible to even find the more substantive topics. Yes, I know that "Substantive" is subjective, but we Mods have to try.

Yeah, we try to keep a lid on repetition, but we can't just close threads like that. Supply & Demand, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I agree that a hair thread is pretty useless, but not so much more so than alot of threads. And it's hard to argue with the people in that thread who were saying that it really wasn't hurting anyone.

1. Agrees with WS

2. We pretty much said one Rager type thread per character (but there are other discussion threads. That's a bit subjective at this point.)

3. Agrees with WS. Christian himself has said that unless a thread is an exact duplicate, it is allowed to stay.

Even if they're silly and stupid, and yes, many of them are. I know it's frustrating to pick out the good ones amidst the many stupid ones, but it's supply and demand. Hopefully with the new shows beginning to air this month, more GOOD ones will begin to show up in the forum.

Sorry.

I had a wild hair this morning:

My memory of "Is Sluggo Gay" made me knee-jerk to slam the lid. It was probably premature. Hopefully, this combined thread will work to the satisfaction of all them hair-focused folks in ENT.

Actually, I recall that discussion a few weeks ago. Shatner's shaved chest, Nimoy's hairy one. LOL

I'm not surprised you didn't recall it, though. Such threads in a male dominated board are often fleeting. Like they say, hair today, gone tomorrow.

^ I wouldn't go so far as to call it a male dominated board. Men might think they're in charge, but we're just kidding ourselves.

And Mutai, good call on the "It's been a long way, getting from there to HAIR" thread. Also, fuckin' great title man!

Maybe it's a "male wannabedominated" board.

I just call 'em like I see 'em, folks. Of course, my primary experience is the TOS forum, but the majority of the posters there are male. Ditto at Fan Fiction. *shrug*

Nothing to pull your hair out over.

Must be nice to have some left to pull out..... and it's unbelievable how such a subject can be the cause of so much surm und drang in MA.

^ Yep, I just gave them a long reply that will hopefully calm things down. I forsee a bunch of hair threads popping up over the next couple of weeks. I would advise letting them stay open unless they are truly just spam. Let them get it out of their system and then we can move on.

Bonz & wS, I am now inclined to re-open the two original body hair threads based on the articulate argument by BDH. My two qualms are, I closed the one by ninjadog because it was obvious Trolling, and my concern over more copy-cat crap. Whaddaya both think??

WS covered it well.

I already opened one of them. If you want to do the other that sounds fine. But leaving ninjadog's is probably a good idea.
