Question for SF&F mods
      #356278 - 2002/09/11 10:31 PM

You give warnings for calling Farscape "Fartscape"? If that's true, isn't that overdoing it a bit?

Sure calling the show "Fartscape" isn't that great, but still...

I agree -- the show canceled or not, I think a warning for "Fartscape" is really, really pushing it. Are we sensing some Farscape-oriented bias here?

It has to be said that posting it in a thread dedictaed to try and save the series, in the immediate aftermath of its cancellation, was not terribly wise.

While it was stupid for whomever to post in that thread, I think that warning for something as stupid as "Fartscape" is pushing it a bit.

I agree. Hell, that's what we call the show at my house. We don't care for it, but hey, what do you expect for "rabid TOS fans"?

This is really a bit after the fact, don't you think?

The reason Scotty gave the warning was the overall tension of Farscape fans at the time. That thread was not exactly amok with it, but the fans of the show were still raw over the series' cancellation. At almost any other time, I would say you were right, that is not warnable. Heck, maybe even a week later things would calm down enough. But he felt that the timing was very poor and designed to do one thing: tick people off.

You have to take the comment in context. The poster was deliberately trying to troll various people who were feeling pretty low at the cancellation of their show.

I think i can get with what you guys are saying, and I agree.

The definition of trolling is to try to get someone upset or angry. Posting that in a thread devoted to getting the show back, or trying to express displeasure over it getting cancelled was the intent of the poster to get people upset.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for your opinion guys. But I have explained my reasons multiple times in this thread. I am not about to do so another time.

I read all of your comments in that thread as well as the thread you gave the warning in, and FWIW, I think a warning was unneccessary. I think there is a line (though hard to see) between trolling and good-natured teasing. I would tend to have taken Femur Bone's comments more as good-natured teasing.

I can understand your annoyance at being second-guessed Scotty, but in all honesty, we READ the stuff out there when it happened. But it looks real bad if we're out there saying "uh, we don't agree". I think that is why it was brought up in here, so as to not sow discord out there and make it difficult for you. When folks out there see that we disagree with something, they would be prone to go for the "divide and conquer" strategy.

And I agree with Jethro, btw.
