sig lengths - again
      #356071 - 2002/09/08 03:57 AM

I think we can take it as read that certin awkward people are simple waiting for us to get lazy about sig lengths in order to start up that row again. So can I put in a plea that we all continue to be Extra Vigilant.

I just spotted a thread in misc with one six and one seven line sig... I know it's a freeking pain when they're just a word or two per line - but please can we be consistent?

This was the thread that struck me, but I wasn't pinpointing any particular poster or mod - just an awareness that this is something that's going to need continual vigilance; and be a right pain. You could probably find a thread or two in fic if you tried hard enough. Trouble is, we either do it or we don't. [sigh]

Or we do it when we come across it. Sig lengths, despite the "holy crusade" abot them, are jus tnot that important a cause to merit a search and destroy mission. If we come across one that needs to be trimmed, fine. But it is not something that commands attention. Nor should it be.

Well we have to be vigilant or else certain persons who should be OUT of here will just be waiting to pounce on us and stir it up...again and again and again.

Thanks for the link, Kathy.

Constant vigilance in my lexicon means opening my big mouth to any posters with over-long sigs when I see them. But I'm not going to go on a search for violations, either.

^ That's what I was asking for. Only I don't open my big mouth in someone else's forum now I'm not admin any more .
I didn't want to single anyone out in particular, just to ask that we all still keep our eyes open.

Don't we already have enough limits on our characters as it is? I mean, we are mods after all. We aren't allowed to make mistakes, or disagree with members, or decide to change or not change something they suggest.

But it sounds to my uneducated person that a character limit would solve the matter completely.

*chuckle* You'll need to have a line limit nonetheless. Otherwise you'd have folks with
r
e
a
l
l
y
l
o
n
g
s
i
g
s

Or you could limit it to say 36 characters and 3 hard/carriage returns.
