Limits in TNZ (Alphaman)

Reza brought up some interesting points in QSF concerning advocating genocide as the topic of a thread in TNZ. Both of us passed over Wolfhound's thread when it occurred, and just about every poster in it disagreed that the proper solution to the Palestine/Israel problem was to kill all the Palestinians, but I'm kinda split on whether or not that is something we should allow in there. I don't think Wolfhound was posting for the specific reason of trolling - it was instead a frustrated reaction to the problems inherent in dealing with terrorism. Of course I don't condone that - I'm just wondering if there are any guidelines that should be followed as to what is an acceptable topic of conversation there.

Funny, I've realized that I've fallen into the typical caricature of the American (as shown by our TV) - violence is ok but sex is a no-no! LOL.

Anyway, anybody with ideas on this it would be appreciated. TNZ is different from the rest of the board, certainly - but how much is too much?

Oh, I did close 2 threads by Freeman (who is about as obvious TK dual as I've ever seen) - about Jesus being Gay and how to fuck over drunk girls then dump them. To me the first guideline for TNZ is what the person posting obviously intending to piss people off compared to sharing their own personal beliefs, no matter how vehemently I disagree with them.

If it were up to me:

  • Let all political discussion alone, as long as it doesn't dissolve into a two-person pissing and flaming contest.
  • Close all threads dealing with the advocation of rape, genocide, or other major criminal offenses.
  • No porn or porn links, obviously.
  • Never resume image posting. It's just too risky, especially with posters age 13 and under having access to that forum.
  • Seriously enforce a limit of three new threads per day. I know that Enterpriser's reduced posting new threads, but others may not be so willing.

Can't say I agree with that one.

First of all, it wouldn't take too much of a stretch to argue that the current Israeli policy is in fact the destruction of the Palestinian people. Immoral as it may be, genocide is a not an uncommon strategy for pacifying an enemy. Whether it's the Nazis in Europe, or the American Army in the 19th Century West, it happens again and again. Euphamisms like "Manifest Destiny" are sometimes used, but the bottom line is the same. And it needs to be debated.

Secondly, I would assume that if I started a thread about hunting down and killing Osama bin Laden it wouldn't be locked. If I started a thread about hunting down and killing Rick Berman, I expect it probably would be. Some leeway is required.

Third, as for the rape threads, I find them distasteful as well. But for better or worse sex is one of the primary topic areas in TNZ and the value of free discussion on the topic outweighs the value of forcing our values on the degenerates who post Rape Kira stuff.

Sorry for the late reply Demi, but I've been a little busy lately... While advocating genocide is a tacky position, I don't think that we should bar any discussion of it, as long as it is done in a manner that invites debate. Someone who can express their position in an intellegent manner, no matter how dumb the topic, should be given some initial benifit of the doubt... That's not ot say that it won't be shut down later at your discretion if you feel you need to... That's just my opinion. Most of the guys who habitat TNZ are pretty intelligent and just might get him to re-evaluate his position and that, I feel could be more productive than muzzling him.

BTW... good call on Freeman... It was obvious this guy just wanted to piss people off and didn't want to discuss anything intelligently. Indeed, his threads left very little open for discussion and were wide open to start flame wars!! Good Call!!
