I'm off on a Jolly......
      #356612 - 2002/09/17 03:50 PM

To Sunny Scunny, with Goldmember. (Or rather, a Dutch Metallurgist, called Johan! ).

So, I'll be gone from Wednesday night untill Friday night.

Sorry for the short notice, but I do get free beer (real ale at that!), and REAL chips. None of these shit American French Fries that the MIB are trying to force us to consume - but real, chunky chips, deep fried, in a variety of un-uniformed sizes. Now that's REAL chips.

(Kind of a big rant about chips there! N.B. Chips do not = crisps, which are completely different = potatoes chips for Americans)

I'm losing it.........

Real Ale and chips - sounds like my kind of jolly! And Scunny can even be ok sometimes. I recall huge icecream as the highlight of my trip there .

And room in your suitcase for freeloaders?

What is a jolly btw? Is it is an English thing? Because to my ears it sounds rather... um... naughty...

Well, I'm back now to answer your question!

A "jolly" is a freebie business trip. I.e. Corus (my company), paid for me to drive down to Scunthorpe - where I get free meals, stay in a lovely countryside bungalow, in Redbourne, which is a 2 min walk away from a wonderful, traditional English pub, where they sell excellent "bitter" ales, and serve the meals with real chips.

Whilst away, I get to drive a nice car, talk to my friends from work, get free meals, beer, chocolates etc, petrol (gas) etc.

Hence the name "jolly" is a "nice trip".

(And yeah, it was great fun. I am absolutely filthy, covered in black powder, and sweaty clothes. Anyway, I've just turned on the hot water - and I'm gonna have a beer in my bubble-bath, whilst listening to Beethoven at exceedingly loud levels.

Goodnight, Ladies and Gentlemen.....
