Thread Closures (Mutai)
      #356725 - 2002/09/20 12:11 AM

Hi Mutai

I know that ENT is being flooded with a lot of threads. And frankly it's really nice to see a couple of pages of threads again after a slow summer. And I know we want to encourage concentration of discussion where possible, and sometimes closing a thread is the right course of action.

However, I've got a couple of concerns over some threads you've closed:

T'Pol needs a nude scene....NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Another "Hoshi is Hot" thread

Who wants to see more of Hoshi topless?

Yeah, we'd all prefer not to have a discussion filled with adolescent boys admiring the assets of the female actresses. But when B&B go out of their way to cater to those desires with a pretty pointless topless scene, we can't do much to say that it's non-topical.

Threads discussing nipple color and things more graphic should be closed, but threads that are tamer, like these are kosher I think. It's supply and demand. There'll be a flood of them now right after the premiere naturally, but they'll eventually dwindle down.

Unfortunately we can't go all jack-boot and run the forum as we'd like. The members have to drive the discussion.

I debated the merits of closing each one of those carefully before choosing to do so. The Hoshi ones could easily be concentrated in the one thread that did remain open. The T'Pol thread was by the newbie spammer, Ra_Jel and I closed it partly as a message to the poster.

I realize that we all have different guages for what does and does not have merit. On a day after a season premier when the board was flooded with interesting new topics (finally, thank God), it just seemed reasonable to thin the crop.

Does this include discussions about armpit hair?

Not sure what to do with this one, since I remember the "hairy" scandal that dogged Mutai earlier this month.

That's what I was doing, too! Inane and silly as it is, I guess it's not hurting anyone. I guess I'll leave it for now. If you see it devolve (if it can!), feel free to close it.

So, if it were a slow day the threads would have stayed open?

See, the impression that we're giving by closing these threads is that only one is acceptable, which isn't true.
