I think that certain threads are so anti-Trek -- and indeed, anti-human -- in nature that they are really not legitimate subjects of discussion; rather, they amount to attempts to detract from legitimate discussion. Speech that is not really speech, but is, instead, a mere attempt to evoke hatred, should not be dignified on this Board, in my humble opinion.

For example, if someone a thread entitled, "Hitler Was Right" or "The Holocaust Never Happened", would that be appropriate? I understand that in Germany, both would be illegal.

Further, it seems to me that advocacy of genocide is the exact opposite of what Trek stands for. By contrast, certain other topics, while controversial, fall within the ambit of fair discussion. For example: "Is Genetic Modification Truly Wrong?", is a topic that Trek itself might evoke.

The Neutral Zone is a great place to discuss controversial topics, but when topics stop being controversial, because there is really no legitimate controversy about them (i.e., no one can truly deny that the Holocaust occurred), then I do have my doubts about whether they should be tolerated.

Admittedly, there might not be a "bright line" test one could apply, except one of common sense and one's own sense of common decency. However, this in itself would not necessarily mean that an absolute laissez-faire approach is the only solution.
