In 1975, skateboarding took a giant leap towards what we see it as today. In Del Mar, California a contest was held at the Ocean Festival. On that day the legendary Zephyr Team showed everyone what skateboarding could and soon would be. No one had ever seen some one ride the board the way they had ridden it. Many people were shocked as well as amazed by the performance that the displayed that day. The Zephyr Team showed the world that day that skateboarding isn't just a hobby it is a serious sport.
Once again skateboarding leaped forward into the modern sport we know it as today. About three years later a skater named Alan "Ollie" Gelfand invented the move known as the ollie. An ollie is when you slam you back foot on the tail of the board, thus launching your self into the air. That trick still bears his name today. The ollie is a very important move for skateboarding. Most moves are performed by doing an ollie. Modern day skateboarding is on its way.
Known by almost every one this skateboarder has a large part in what skateboarding was and what it has become. Tony Hawk turned professional at the age of fourteen! By the time Tony had turned sixteen he had become by far the world's best skateboarder. Tony has entered about 103 pro events or contest and won 73, also placing second in 19. This is the best skateboarding record held so far.
