Lizzy Borden
the man and the band, took the stage of Hartford's Webster Theater Sun. April 1st, with one thing in mind.
To bring metal to the masses. And that they did in a spectacular 45 minute set that included brief, yet stunning
bass and guitar solos from Marten Andersson and Alex Nelson, respectively.
Mr. Borden was in top form as the first verse of set opener "There Will Be Blood Tonight"
seemed to eminate from the rafters as if the metal gods themselves had produced it. Just before the chorus kicked in, the crowd
got to see who it had come for. Lizzy himself bolted to center stage right on cue to sing the chorus with the rest of the band.
The manical, metal craving mass of fans ate up every last bite as the band ripped into classics such as "Notorious", and "Master
Of Disguise", dispelling rumors that Lizzy would not be performing fan favorites.
Changing costumes with almost every song, Lizzy proved he is the undisputed king of showmanship
in metal, despite the lack of the infamous stage show. Lizzy comanded the stage as if he had never gone away. Later in the set,
long time fans were treated to even more classic cuts such as "Psycho Path", and "Me Against The World". Even with a dissapointing
turn-out, due lack of promotion, the band was full-on metal, in the Lizzy tradition.
In all, this was what the Connecticut scene truly needed. A slap in the face to those who claimed
that metal is dying. This was definately an extravaganza to be witnessed by all die-hard metal fans and newer fans alike. Lizzy Borden's
trek across the U.S. makes it's next stop in Pittsburgh, PA on the fourth, and continues until the April 10th wrap-up in Columbus, OH.
The set list for the April 1st
onslaught was as follows:
There Will Be Blood Tonight
Notorious
Lord Of The Flies
Hell Is For Heros
Rod Of Iron
Psycho Path
Master Of Disguise
Deal With The Devil
Me Against The World
Red Rum
The following interview was conducted on April 1st in Hartford by Rich Warren from Wednesday Night Metal Fest with Steve Jaymz from Pages Of SIN:
Where have you been since "Master Of Disguise" was released??
Relaxing....(laughs) Well, back in 88-90, there was'nt any real metal scene. At one point, there was only us, and Slaughter out on the circuit. That's when I knew something was wrong...(laughs)
How has the tour been going?
We're getting really good turn-outs. Over in Eurpoe, we've been playing to crowds between 10,000 to 35,000. We're playing smaller places in the states, but they're filling up.
How has the response to "Deal With The Devil" been so far?
It's the best selling album of my career so far. It's been recieved really well. We were'nt too sure how it would do at first, so we watched Armored Saint's album. Thiers was released before ours. Saints album sold well and so is ours.
How many songs did you write for "Deal With The Devil"?
I was writting through out the 90's and we had litteraly hundreds of sonfs to pick from
How does the U.S. metal scene differ from the European scene?
Well on the last leg of our tour over there, I did around two hundred interviews. That's more than I've done before. So far, in the states, I've done like 50 or so.
