Wailing Wall Ceremony.
 Elsa; Wailing Wall.
 Jerusalem, Roman's ruins. |
Vacation start not very promising. We disembarked on Tel Aviv's airport in the evening. As I went to check us in our hotel (it was previously booked,) Elsa (my wife) went to the ladies restroom. As she was washing her hands a young man with a knife entered. Elsa disregarded the knife and told him with a smile in her face that the men's restroom was next door. She repeated the same phrase several times; the fellow looked at his knife and at my wife several times in bewilderment. In the meantime another lady entered the lady's room. The fellow got frightened and ran off. Elsa came out and told the hotel concierge and me what had happenned. The hotel staff made a search and came out empty handed. In the intervening time, Elsa realised what she went through and became rather agitated. (From that day and on every subsequent vacation, whenever she has to utilise a restroom: she inspects it from the door to see if it is safe to enter, and I stay outside the door for as long as I'm needed). To calm her down we went outside. Our hotel was situated on a Mediterranean beach. We visited the wharf, the boardwalk and walked along the beach until dark.
In the morning, after a very short Tel Aviv visit, we departed for Jerusalem. During the previous night we had a good rest and Elsa's ordeal was filed away in our memory.
Once booked in our Jerusalem hotel, we ate a bite, we changed and prepared for our city exploration. We entered the ancient city through the Jaffa Gate. As you walk in, the David's Tower welcomes you. The citadel and tower are very beautiful and ancient architectural structures. Of course there is the souvenir section with all the trinkets, one can buy all the nicknacks one wishes for. However, we went there to explore our Judean-Christian religious roots. We walked the Via Dolorosa (way of the cross). It gave us an inexplicable feeling. (We know that it is just an approximate site, in any event the faithful believe it to be true.) We than went to see the Holy Sepulchre basilica (church). We visited Jesus's tomb and all the relics. We than proceeded to visit the Wailing Wall and the Temple Mount. Everything was very impressive. |
