RICHARD PINGREE SCOWCROFT, Ph.D. '46, died October 8 in Stanford, Cal. He was a professor emeritus of English and former director of the Creative Writing Program at Stanford University, where he served on the faculty for 32 years. He was a Briggs-Copeland Instructor during his Harvard years. He was a deft novelist and a magnetic raconteur whose novels include Children of the Covenant, The Ordeal of Dudley Dean, First Family, Wherever She Goes, Back to Fire Mountain, and A View of the Bay. He leaves three sons, R. Mark, Roger, and Philip '77; his wife, Anne (Kendall), died in 1992.
