What's on the Menu
LEAFS GOALTENDING – It's
almost becoming too obvious to mention, but for the Leafs to win the
Stanley Cup they need Curtis Joseph at his best, injured hand or
not. He accomplished his goal of playing one game before the
playoffs and looked good in a 5-2 road win over the Pens.
If Cujo can't go, Corey Schwab will be ready to step in. The
31-year-old backup goalie kept the Leafs in the hunt for first in
the Eastern Conference in Joseph's absence, playing the best hockey
of his career. He calmly handled all the attention that was suddenly
thrust on him and he could do it again if called upon.
Pat Quinn avoided a goaltender controversy when late-season
acquisition Tom Barrasso hurt his hand. He will be out indefinitely.
Chances are Schwab would have been the guy to replace Joseph but
Barrasso still could get back in a Leafs uniform if they go deep.
Stranger things have happened.
