  Name: Francis Fox
  From: Philadelphia
  Occupation: Farmer

→    His dad, came from what the actor calls "a Philadelphia blue-blood", old-money family. Early in his life his sense of independence made him move away from the life of privilege he was born to, and he raised a family in rural solitude.

→    Halfway through Matthew's senior year in high school, his father asked, "So, what do you have planned?" Matthew doesn't remember it being an especially productive conversation, "I was like, 'planned?' Chasing girls, drinking beer, and being a jock. That was the plan", says Fox.

→    In high school Matthew thought of becoming a framer like his dad. "I thought he could do better" -- Francis Sr.

→    His father suggested Fox leave home to study on the east coast.

→   "It opened my mind and my concept of the world," he says. "Wyoming is very provincial and has a way of keeping people there" - Matthew Fox, on moving to the east coast.

→   "So much of who I am and how I approach the world has to do with my father. He is an amazing man and I've admired his choices since I was very young." -- Matthew Fox

→   He's father appeared with him on the documentary "The Survival of the Yellowstone Wolves".

♦  "Everyone says that they're going to be crying [a lot], and you're not going to get much sleep but it's difficult in a lot of ways. I was expecting some sort of epiphany,a seismic shift inside of me, and that I was automatically want to care for this child. It didn't happen that way. You fall in love with them, and then you fall more in love than you've ever been with anything. But it happens [slowly]. There a lot of guilt and weird feelings... [you think] you're not a good parent... it's just difficult" -- Matthew Fox, 1998

  Daughter: Kyle Allison Fox
  Born 1998

"Personally, I have to carry that [Hodgkin's] stuff around with me, so getting rid of it sometimes isn't that easy. But you can be in a really bad state and then walk through the door, and [Kyle's] waiting for you, and you turn that corner and she just gives you a gigantic smile and you're -- poof -- you're right back into that life. It's awesome" -- Matthew Fox, 1998

"When the show [Lost] was picked up for 13 episodes and we knew we were moving there, my daughter Kyle started crying. She said they were tears of happiness." -- Matthew Fox, 2004

  Son: Byron Fox
  Born: 2002

Recently, Matthew gave his son his first action-figure toy: Samurai Jack. "He's nuts about the cartoon. He got so excited, he looked like he had to go pee," says Fox laughing.

"One of my favorite things is to take a nap with Bryon. He goes down everyday at 1 o'clock for two hours. He sucks his thumb, hooks his finger over his nose and just looks at you, glassy-eyed. It's so quiet and intimate. Those moments are pricless." -- Matthew Fox

"I mainly spend a lot time with my children and wife and we're really fortunate. We found this really cool house, its got a pool. It's the first time we ever had pool. We spend alot of time swimming. My boy, who is almost four just basically taught himself how to swim without floaties. So that been really fun. We're now like putting on goggles, both of us will put on goggles, we'll dip down underneath the water and look at each other under the water. Just the look on his face, its absolutely hilarious." -- Matthew Fox, 2005
