Mayor Grant Harrison expected to win by a landslide. He was running unopposed.
Gus Gobbler was a turkey who had recently been bought by vegetarians.
"I hope enough people went along with your plan," said Paulina, as she and Joe watched the returns.
"Me too," Joe said.
An hour later, every cop at the 2-3 was cheering. Gus Gobbler had been overwhelmingly elected mayor of Bay City.
A furious Grant was on the phone. "It's ridiculous," he fumed. "I don't care how many write-in votes he got."
The next morning's "Bay City Herald" carried this headline:
"TURKEY DEFEATS TURKEY."
