About American_Underground

Though this web site is new, it is simply a revised version of an older one. The American Underground began in the late 1990's as a web site on current events and politics. The 1990's were a dark time, with the country under eight years of government by the Clinton-Gore administration, which raised taxes, increased government regulation, neglected national defense, pursued a reckless gun-control agenda, and tried to force the Kyoto Protocol for energy rationing on the U.S. populace despite no real evidence for human-caused "global warming" -- and no proof that their rationing would have any effect but higher prices and out of work stiffs.

Oh yes, and the Clinton administration was also engaged in personally reprehensible conduct, from "travelgate" to the Monica scandal to Vince Foster's mysterious death that was ruled a "suicide" despite contradictory evidence and a total lack of investigation -- along with a "suicide note" the authenticity of which was openly questioned by some experts. However, the personal misconduct -- which also included accepting bribes from officials of Communist China and a Cuban Drug kingpin who was photographed in front of the White House at a fund raiser arm-in-arm with Vice President Gore before pleading guilty to smuggling cocaine into the U.S. -- was much less worrisome for America than the errors of policy, which were rampant. Some recognized the erroneous policy. But few dared name the ideas behind it; the embrace of a neo-socialist, statist, egalitarian mindset in which the government existed, not to represent the people, but to control them and divide their earnings; where the U.S. military existed not to defend Americans, but to serve as altruist sand-bags in Bosnia and instal a dictator in Haiti.

American Underground was created to provide not just a counterpoint to the leftist cheering squad that applauded every Clintonion policy error, but also to talk about the ideas behind the dangerous policy; the ideas of the resurgent socialism and out-of-control altruism which called on Americans to sacrifice their liberty to the government in Washington, D.C. -- and their lives to warlords in Kosovo. This reached beyond the pale of partisanship; many of these disastrous ideas have taken root on the "right" as well, as witness George W. Bush's proposals for a vast new prescription drug welfare program, and amnesty for illegals who break into the country, among other dangerous policy trends.

Indeed, now it is more important than ever to discuss the idea that shape the news. With the threat of terrorism post-9/11, the focus of government should be returning to what novelist Ayn Rand dubbed its "just and proper functions".

Instead, the politicians wish to expand the welfare state -- and ignore defense. They have buried the lessons of September 11 along with the casualties of that deadly day, because those lessons raised alarming errors in their policy -- be it the appeasement of terrorism abroad via inaction or bogus "peace processes", or the misuse of government at home for redistributionist schemes, to the neglect of government's just and proper function of defense. This has to change.

It is time to remind them of the lessons they have buried along with their fellows in the leftist media establishment.

Don't be tricked by the mainstream media.
