I clasped my hands tight together
when I heard the lighter hiss
seeing their faces go blank, somehow, nothing in their eyes but the
reflection
of the small flame
I wasn't afraid
exactly
because they all exuded invulnerability,
they would not burn
but dry grass does
and the grass was dry
the flame wavering, dancing, giving them
something
a light in their eyes
and the dry grass was all
I had to sit on
sticking to the bottom of my sweater
