| Treasure of the Tonga Trench
Hello. I'm Bob Ballard from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Although the deep sea creature we saw on tonight's show doesn't really exist, recently we discovered an ancient fish we thought had vanished millions of years ago. It's called the coelacanth. Now, the light that deep sea creatures produce is called bioluminescence. It's created by a chemical reaction inside their bodies, and it's highly efficient and gives off very little heat. See you on the next exciting adventure of seaQuest DSV. |
