*Remember the first song you ever heard that turned you on to heavy music?
Mine was "Rock & Roll All Night" by KISS. I was 6 years old - been
hooked
ever since.
* Remember Borivoj Krjin from Metal Maniacs who used to slam every brutal
band? I found it interesting that you could spell Bon Jovi with the letters
in his name. Coincidence? I think not!
*Remember when Cannibal Corpse was the only band that sounded like
Cannibal
Corpse? Those were the good ol' days! Now Cannibal Corpse doesn't even sound
like Cannibal Corpse
*Remember Adam Curry and the early years of MTV's Headbanger's Ball? Remember
when Rikki Rachtman took over and ruined death metal forever by pushing L.A.
Guns and Faster Pussycat? Remember when the brutal videos got reduced to a
block of four songs at the end of the show? Rikki Rectum should be held
personally responsible for wrecking the budding popularity of heavy, brutal
music!
*Remember Curt (Ka-bang) Cobain? He helped Rikki seal the deal by starting
that whole grunge thing! "Genius"? How about "Asshole"! Rest
In Pieces!
*Remember the underground before the internet and e-mail made life so much
simpler? Thank god for computer nerds! Who needs major label promotion when
you have 90 billion people surfing your web page. Fuck the majors!
*Remember when there was no rap music?
*Remember when there were no metal rap bands? I hold Aerosmith and Run D.M.C.
responsible. Walk this way, mother fucker! Into the path of Blood Bath
Barney's chainsaw!
*Remember the forefathers of brutal music? Black Sabbath shall be praised and
worshipped as the true living gods! After all, they were "Born Again".
*Remember the pioneers who got us here? Venom, Sodom, Kreator, Possessed,
Cirith Ungol, Slayer, The Misfits, Manowar, Gravedigger, etc..
*Remember the punks and thrashers who took it to the next level? Mucky Pup,
Black Flag, S.O.D., M.O.D., Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, Death Angel,
Danzig, etc..
*Remember the bands who put thrash into overdrive and created the monster we
know as Death Metal? Carcass, Death, Obituary, Grave, Morbid Angel, Cannibal
Corpse, Malevolent Creation, Terrorizer, Napalm Death, Cancer, Broken Hope,
Immolation, Deicide, etc..
*Remember that era we'd ALL like to forget? Motley Crue, Slaughter, Poison,
Ratt, Winger, Guns & Roses, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat. We should all be
shot
for letting those bands breathe the same air as us! An era better forgotten!
*Remember when Beavis & Butthead were new and no one knew what a
"cheesy
poof" was yet? Thanks to Trey Parker & Matt Stone for the creation of
South
Park! We all needed that!
*Remember when Jack Koshick was more concerned with putting on a killer show
than making a buck? (Milwaukee Money Fest)
*Remember everything Sandy "Metal Mom" Newton has done for the scene
in the
mid-west? I adopted her as my mom back in 1992! She rules and so does her
Michigan Death Fest Series, which I was a part of many times. (Hail Metal
Mom! --Dea)
*Remember when Black Metal rose in popularity? Mayhem, Acheron, Vital
Remains, Sabbat, Bathory, Samael, etc.. I never went in much with the Black
Metal uprising, but more power to them!
*Remember when Carcass was the only band using medical terms out of the
dictionary? Nowadays I wonder if I'm reading the Relapse catalog or The
Journal Of Medicine.
*Remember when Dave Lombardo was in Slayer where he belongs? Ozzy got back
with Sabbath; let's hope Dave ends up back where he belongs as well!
*Remember when James Murphy was in Cancer? Or Death? Or Obituary? Or
Disincarnate? James - you are my god and my savior! The best D.M. guitarist
ever!
*Remember when there was no Metal Mafia? Here's to another millennium of metal
madness! See you on the other side! Stay brutal -- stay true!
