Kiely made his debut for the Republic of Ireland on the 13-11-99 in the European Championships v Turkey, Lansdowne Road (1-1). He also he came on as substitute in the European Champ. qualifiers 2002 play-off match against Turkey, when the then keeper Alan Kelly injured himself. From this the whole of Ireland realised just how good of a shot-stopper this man was.
Kiely was previously capped by England Schoolboys on 13 occasions, and he has a lot of work to do to get the number 1 jersey off Shays back. Time is not on his side
