...yes, it is really amazing how uptight the
culture is around masturbation. My sense is that we hide sexual shame in
masturbation, as a culture and as individuals. We claim to "like
sex" or "love sex" or "want sex" but then when masturbation appears, we are
in very shameful territory, and this is the heart of the matter where sexual
repression is concerned...
How many of us can really say, "Well, talk to you
later, I'm off to masturbate now!"
...I have found that finding out about how people
feel about masturbation is a kind of hologram about how they feel about life --
including how they/we feel about sharing this daring sport with others.
What, after all, is the big deal?
i think the "big deal" is the ability to claim and
be the author of one's own pleasure. therein lies great power. to
not need anyone to feel pleasure, to feel good. we are conditioned to
believe that pleasure is only just when it's being given to us or when we're
giving it away. but to hold
our own pleasure within our hands, oh no,
this might just lead to thinking, "Gee if I can create this than what else I can
do for myself?" think independently for one. it's a very powerful
threshold to cross.
