THE DAILY TRAVESTY | Robert Goes Zen and Horoscopes
THE DAILY TRAVESTY for January 14, 2000
Volume 1, Issue 10
brought to you by B.C. and his ego

"Nothing is what it seems; what it is, it is."
                -Robert Gholl

Robert was just joking around when he said that, but I think those are some of the wisest words anyone in my circle of friends has uttered in a long time [Go ahead and laugh it up, Trish.  She is under the false impression that I worship him].  I think if I repeated that mantra to myself every morning, my life would be much easier.  But then, that's just me.

Anyone else with a shakey sense of reality, take heart!  You cannot fuck up.  "Fuck up" is just a thought we try to scare ourselves with.  Think big, because the rest of it (all of it) is small.

And that's the end of B.C.'s rant for today.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)
If events of the coming week don't bring out the worst in you, they will surely rage out the very finest.  Unfortunately, there's little room to mix and match, since what's written in the stars has an extreme quality to it.  The key to deciding which way you'll tip is identifying where in your cosmology or spiritual programming you're secretly harboring defeatist beliefs, or some form of guilt that's been preventing you from jumping to the next level.  After all, who can really be passionate and shameful at the same time? Who can be centered and righteous in their convictions, while simultaneously paralyzed by the doubt that their existence is somehow wrong?  Not you, that's for sure.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)
Recent events are likely to have demonstrated the ways in which the power balances in certain relationships are out of adjustment in your life, and through the rest of this month and into early February look like excellent times to make conscious corrections.  In particular, when sexual relationships start in the workplace, or have money involved, the "more powerful" person must create openings to equality or there will never be a real emotional connection.
Relationship patters with one's parents are involved, because these are inherently lopsided, so check in on that history, then determine in which current situations you must work to make the emotional openings, or ask others to do so, or both.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)
Now is a fine time to consider whether what you believe comes from you, or from somebody else.  That could be the dumbest thing ever written because we show up in cultures that serve to incultrate us, that is, make us little members of the team doing exactly what we are supposed to.  But, to choose an important aspect of life, what is clear is that you have your own way of loving.  Yet at the same time, you are now wrestling with values that others are attempting to impress upon you that are merely traditional in nature, and you may feel that what you want will not be available if you don't play along.  It may not be -- in which case, do you really want it?  And if not, what do you want?

CANCER (June 21-July 22)
The layering process which characterizes your growth for this intricate year begins now.  The first step involves a shift out of group identities, and staking a substantial claim on your individuality.  You will know this is happening if you suddenly find yourself feeling rather disoriented or wake up one day and forgetting who you are.  Such steps occur on the inside and depend very little on what you say or how you behave toward others.  At the moment you are, and will continue to be, exceptionally open to the psychic vibes and emotional influences of others.  If you are invited to do anything, or be with someone whom you already know will hurt you, that's a very good time to make your exit.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)
In the Tarot spread known as life, you are about to be dealt a trump card which will allow you to give up one major insecurity.  For this occasion, I strongly suggest you work on conceptualizing how your fears (another word for 'insecurities') are structured. Fears are usually based on doubts.  Doubts are based on beliefs, which, in turn, are based on your ideas about the nature of reality.  One single idea about the nature of reality can influence a dozen beliefs and twelve times as many insecurities.  So pick your most disturbing one.  Then work through the layers down through fear, doubt, mistaken belief, and false cosmology.  And then play your trump.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
It may seem that one particular individual has the power to come at you with great force while stirring up a frightening inner tempest that leaves you wide open to their unwholesome designs or manipulations.  And for you who so value keeping at least a loose grip on your reality, this could be very disconcerting.  It may seem that the solution resides in controlling or amping down your own desire nature, but I assure you this will only serve to stir up more chaos within your psyche, leaving you even more vulnerable.  Instead, I suggest you just watch what is happening and let your feelings flow, but guided by your sense of who you know you are. You're less vulnerable than you think.

LIBRA (Sep. 23-Oct. 22)
Revolution begins with words. Not "mere words," but potent, clear words that convey ideas, necessities and allow us to engage with our fellow inhabitants of the universe.  Remember what you have said and conceived in these very weeks, because it is far more important than you now realize, and will have a great bearing on what you are able to create as the next phase of your creative and intellectual development unfolds, as it is now well poised to do.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Among those deserving the designation, there are basically two kinds of lovers: those whose main pleasure comes specifically from gratifying others, and those who share in a kind of dance of pleasure in which giving and receiving are very closely related.  My sense is that you've had a tendency to lean toward the first way of being, and have become somewhat dependent upon how bestowing pleasure distances you from your potentially deepest surrender in the presence of another person.  But something is changing profoundly in the ineffable regions where your emotional unfoldment meets your need to totally release yourself.  You and, as it works out, those around you will benefit greatly as you learn to give up all thoughts and reservations, and tumble deep into your ecstasy with no thought of anyone but yourself.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23-Dec. 21)
It looks to me like you are brewing the perfect psychic chemistry to blend your typically conservative financial instincts with just the right amount of luck and daring to turn something unlikely into a sure winner.  A big part of the equation will be an insight into how valuable what you're working with really is, even though its worth may not be readily apparent.  Between value that's real but goes unnoticed and value that becomes fully apparent in its worth usually occurs some kind of creative approach to the problem.  And that usually involves taking a simple, obvious approach that everyone else has overlooked.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
It would help immensely if you take steps to maintain your mental perspective. You're subject to a variety of distortions which can potentially blind you to reason and overwhelm your mind with emotions you may not understand.  While this news may not inspire you to do cartwheels, you can actually ride the alternating waves of chaos, inspiration, calculated logic and blazing insight to some interesting places -- as long as you don't try to do stock trades during the chaos wave, or paint your masterpiece during the calculated logic phase.  Take it one wave at a time, remember where you are, and if you keep a notebook handy, you'll discover some fun things there about an hour after you wrote them.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 19-Feb. 18)
It may be difficult for you to view in this way, but all of the recent frustrations of your life have involved the way in which you use, or choose not to use, your emotional energy.  One little trick we can do with our emotions is be an empath; that is, feel and take on what another person is feeling.  This is rarely a wise idea, because God only knows what other people are really dealing with, and we all have enough sources of pain in our lives without inviting extra ones. Why not let your feelings be your feelings, and everyone else's feelings be theirs? If you get a stab of guilt at considering this seemingly radical declaration of autonomy, you've got your finger right on the issue.

PISCES (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
This will be a fine week if you remember that you don't need anyone's permission to be who you are, and an excellent week if you very gently deflect or disregard any challenges to your creative authority, playing the role of master of your destiny.  It will be a fabulous week if you prioritize what you know is most important to you, follow your instincts and simply make the world and its expectations stand aside for greater things.  And you're heading for an amazing week if you approach all outer situations with tact, mindfulness and composure, because people are quite willing to help you, but are weighing your every word.

For the Faithful
This is an eclipse advisory.  Yes, it's been nearly six months since the Aug. 11, 1999 alignment recreated known reality, and the coming lunar eclipse (visible anywhere it's dark and clear the night of Jan. 20 in at around 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time), and the corresponding solar eclipse Feb. 5 (invisible in North America), are very unlikely to be quite as disruptive as the stellar circus last summer.  But that doesn't mean we can't put them to good use.  Eclipses are workhorses, and always represent opportunities to make changes, break free from routines, shift levels and think along routes you would ordinarily be afraid to let your mind run.  And the Feb. 5 event rings in the Chinese year of the White Dragon, which to me sounds like a fine way to spark off a true adventure.
