1. Please tell the readers about the band. When it was formed, the line-up, releases and stuff like that.
We formed UNPURE at the end of 1991 and since then we had several line-ups. But the band has always consisted of Kolgrim Bass and Vocals and Hräsvelg Drums and Vocals. But in 1997 the line-up has been Kolgrim B and V, Hräsvelg Guitars and Vocals & Jonathon Drums. The releases has been Demo 1 ī92, Demo 2 ī93, Demo 3 ī94, Unpure CD ī95, Coldland CD ī96, Promotape ī98. And weīve been on several compilation tapes and CDīs over the years.
2. How would you describe your music? What are your musical influences?
Some kind of Black/Death Metal. Or just extremer Metal, whatever that suits the beholder. I donīt care much about labels like that. There are always people that has their own opinions about everything. But I would call the music and lyrics I make Black Metal. Because I am possessed by the Black and it truly rules my world. We have many different musical influences. It is all based upon Metal music. Thatīs the music we live for but there are a lot of Metal bands that has influenced us over the years. But very clear influences are the early days of Frost, Bathory and Mayhem. But there are so much more.
3. What inspires you lyrically? What topics do the lyrics deal with?
I can only speak for myself. But I am very inspired by things that are reality to me. Like the Black, Death, War, Lusts, Pain, All kinds of misery and plagues.. Itīs a 24 hour fascination I have. So the lyrics can be about dreams or things that happens around me in life. Sometimes I even do fiction stories, but not too often.
4. What is the main purpose of your music? Any political/religious message?
Personal satisfaction basically. I donīt believe in sending messages to masses or other people at all. It doesnīt interest me at all. Thatīs for people who is interested in the world around us and think that they have to do something about it. I am too ignorant and simply donīt care. I am a total egoist and itīs really for my own satisfaction. Thatīs why this band is still playing, I guess. But if people likes it, cool. We can release stuff. The best thing with that is when there is a record label that pays for the recording, because recording is very expensive and couldnīt pay it myself.
5. What about live shows? Have you played any gigs lately? How often do you play live?
We donīt play that often at all. But this year we have actually done 9 gigs. Thatīs more than any year before. In September we did a tour with finnish Urn and japanese Sabbat. 7 gigs in Finland and Sweden. And now in December we will do a gig in Berlin. But we arenīt very used to do gigs. We are not a very popular band so people doesnīt really want us to play.
6. How is the metal scene in your area? Are you in contact with other bands?
The scene has been bad for a long time. Itīs still bad but I see it growing and it might be better from what I can see. At least there has been some great bands showing up lately. But Iīm not too involved in the scene here anymore. But yes, we do have some contacts around here..
7. Is anybody in your band involved in other projects? If yes, who and which?
Our drummer is actually a session-member so he has a another band aswell, but thatīs nothing anyone who reads this knows about. Thatīs it right now. It seems like Unpure is the highest priority for all of us right now. Maybe because there has been stuff happening lately.
8. What is the best cd / demo you have heard in the last month?
The best CD is definitely Countess 'The Shining Swords of Hate'. I havenīt heard any new demo for a long while now so thatīs quite hard to answer. Canīt even remember the last demo I bought. Might be Unholy Massacre from Brazil. Thatīs pretty wild, indeed..
9. What was the last concert you went to? What was the best concert you have been at?
The last one was Motörhead in Stockholm. The best. Pffeeeeeewwwww. Thatīs fucking hard.. Some highlights has been Candlemass Stockholm 90, Asphyx Stockholm 91, Tiamat Täby 90, Sadistik Exekution Hamburg 95 among others. Iīve been to quite many gigs over the years, itīs impossible to remember all the great ones, it has been quite many..
10. What kind of beverage is your favourite? Any special brands? Do you do any drugs?
I donīt have a favourite.. It depends on mood and where I am. I do many drugs, but it depends on what you count as drugs..
11. What can really piss you off?
Life.
12. What are you plans for the future? Gigs, releases and so on.
We are now recording our 3rd album and I guess that will be released sometime early 2001. A split 7" with japanese Sabbat is on the way to be released. We will do a gig in Berlin at the 25th of December. Print new shirts. Thatīs our future plans.
