1. Please tell the readers about the band. When it was formed, the line-up, releases and stuff like that.
Stormwarrior was formed about 3 1/2 years ago and still consists of the
constant line-up: Scythewielder-guitar. Hell Saviour-bass, Evil Steel-drums and me (Thunder Axe)-Vocals/guitars. We have released two demotapes so far which are called "Metal Victory" and "Barbaric Steel" and we have signed a record deal with Hamburg Label Remedy Records. We had several offers for a deal but Remedy records was the only one who guaranteed Lp-Versions of all releases!
2. How would you describe your music? What are your musical influences?
We call our music "Barbaric Heavy Metal"! "Barbaric" because the heathens
were called "barbaric" by the fucking christians,so it can be seen as a kind of provocation concerning this christian society! Another aspect is that the lifestyle of Heavy Metal in general (if one really feels metal and has it in the blood) is barbaric in this society!
We come from Hamburg and so we play typical old school Hamburg Heavy Metal
which means our main influences are Helloween (up to '86) and early Running Wild!
3. What inspires you lyrically? What topics do the lyrics deal with?
Mostly old Manowar and our northern mythology and historical battles and
heroes like Wiliam Wallace for example, but stories about the eightees told by older Metal Warriors, too of course (sadly I was born too late!).
4. What is the main purpose of your music? Any political/religious message?
Heavy Metal is religion and lifestyle that means Denim, Bullets, Chains, Spikes & Leather belong to Heavy Metal and for us not only on stage!Political in the meaning of "Burn the churches " and let revenge be done but not as a real political direction!
5. What about live shows? Have you played any gigs lately? How often do you play live?
Last year we didn't play live very often, but the years before we played a
lot of gigs.I hope this year we can play many gigs again. But mostly it's a
question of money because it's very expensive to drive to the shows every
weekend and we don't get such a high paying fo the shows.Normally it's not the main problem (a band has to invest a lot of money) but we have to save money for the recording sessions in summer (the costs for the record are divided between band and label!)
6. How is the metal scene in your area? Are you in contact with other bands?
In Hamburg it's not so good,we have some pubs and some clubs for concerts
but you cannot speak of a real scene any more. Some other bands are in Hamburg but most contacts are with other bands like Angry Angels, Kill, Brightness, Wizard, Nocturnal,...from Hamburg we stay in contace with Torment, Paragon. I hope we can start some gigs this year together.
7. Is anybody in your band involved in other projects? If yes, who and which?
Yes,our drummer is playing with Dark Age from Hamburg, Scythewielder and me have another band together and then I am playing bass in cult speed-thrash Metal legend Minotaur!
8. What is the best cd / demo you have heard in the last month?
Heavy Load-Metal Conquest and the new Exciter-Blood of tyrants on Picture
Vinyl!
9. What was the last concert you went to? What was the best concert you have been at?
I don't know exactly but could have been Metalucifer/Desaster/Metal
Inquisitor and Pentacle in Koblenz. The show of Metalucifer was surely one of the best in the last time because of the real underground eightees
atmosphere. Denim, chains, spikes and leather every where-Fucking Pure Metal!!
10. What kind of beverage is your favourite? Any special brands? Do you do any drugs?
Holsten Beer is the best one (even if other band members don't like
it, believe me!!). Another favorit for me is Met!!!And sometimes Whiskey!
Prost!
11. What can really piss you off?
If some bastards call themselves Metalheads but don't really live it!
Or if zines become instruments of labels by getting paid to promote their
products and then call it "True Metal"! Death to false Metal or should one say... to false "True Metal"?!
12. What are you plans for the future? Gigs, releases and so on.
We will record a 7" called "Spikes & Leather" and release it through
Remedy Records in march/april i think and in summer we'll record our first LP/CD called "Defenders of Metal" together with Kai Hansen.I hope we can create the good old eightees sound like on "Walls of Jericho" with him. And we will play some gigs I hope!
13. Thatīs it for now. Thank you for the interview. If you would like to insult and/or offend someone, please do it here. If you have a closing remark/statement, this is also the place.
"Tack" for the interview and "Skal" to all who still live Metal the way
the gods told us to!!!
