1. Please tell the readers about the band. When it was formed, the line-up, releases and stuff like that.
Shadowlord was formed in the autum of 1995 by guitarist Richèl and guitarist /vocalist Lesley (Ex-Sanguinary) Inspired by bands as Satiricon, Emperor, Marduk etc.. A year later a drummer was found and in 1997 the first gigs were played.The first hard steps for a perfect line-up were made in 1999, when a new drummer came aboard; Daniël (also played in a Punk- and Hard Core Metal band). A new additional vocalist was found in the person of Cor (Ex-Diabolic Vomit) and Dave (also played in Herfst ) is the man behind the keyboards. This line-up was completed in January 2000 when bass player Arno (Sick Being Bored, Veils of Down) enters the now fully loaded metal ship. Only one month after Arno joined the band the first songs were recored at a studio in Hilversum. February 2000 Shadowlord records their first demo in one weekend time. In May 2000 State off Art Productions releases this demo as a four track debut cd with the title Shadowlord Empire. 250 copies were send as promo all over the world and approximately 1.000 cd's are sold. The cd received good responses of Dutch and foreign metal (web)magazines. May 2000 till May 2002 Shadowlord has done +/- 50 live gigs, selling their cd and merchandise (see website). February 2002 Shadowlord records their first full-length album in one-week time. June 2002 Dave has left Shadowlord as he wanted more time for his other bands Grimorium Verum & Doodenakker. Shadowlord has found a new keyboardplayer in the person of Daphne Albeda.(Imhost & Sanguist).
2. How would you describe your music? What are your musical influences?
As every person in the band is involved in the creation of new songs a great diversity of styles are mixed with traditional blackmetal. This way Shadowlord has created its own unmistakable sound with Heavy-,Trash-, Deathmetal and classical influences. Bands like; Satiricon, Emperor, Marduk, Arcturus, Dream Theater, Death, Symphony X, Hollenthon, Sammath, Dimmu Borgir, Metallica, had some influences on Shadowlord.
3. What inspires you lyrically? What topics do the lyrics deal with?
Some songs of Shadowlord are based upon historical facts happened here in our home town, other songs deal with the questions of life.
4. What is the main purpose of your music? Any political/religious message?
World Domination, just making the music we like and to play it live. Just against all believes...
5. What about live shows? Have you played any gigs lately? How often do you play live?
We play as often as we can about two times a month but at the moment we are busy with the release of our second cd and rehearsing with our new keyboardplayer.
6. How is the metal scene in your area? Are you in contact with other bands?
We do a lot of gigs with local bands in fact we book our own festivals with a couple of bands under the name of Black Label Management. (see site).
7. Is anybody in your band involved in other projects? If yes, who and which?
The singer is doing the vocals on the new Sammath cd ( HYPERLINK "http://www.sammath.nl" www.sammath.nl ). Our bass player also plays in an other band called Am Tuat.
8. What is the best cd / demo you have heard in the last month?
Sammath "Verwoesting/Devastation", Dream Theater "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence", Sirenia "At Sixes and Sevens", Arcturus "The Sham Mirrors".
9. What was the last concert you went to? What was the best concert you have been at?
Under The Black Sun festival, Graspop, Rammstein, Ozzfest. The best concert was Dynamo 1991 till 1996.
10. What kind of beverage is your favourite? Any special brands? Do you do any drugs?
Coke and Cola, Dortmunter DAB beer, Bavaria, Corona, Hoegaarden (these are all drugs!?) NO HARDDRUGS ACCEPT ALCOHOL, SOME SOFTDRUGS.
11. What can really piss you off?
Little children, politicians, narrow minded people and when there is no beer at our gigs.
12. What are you plans for the future? Gigs, releases and so on.
We hope to release our second cd; ?Scourge of Heaven? in September or October and trying to get a tour to promote our cd.
