1. Please tell the readers about the band. When it was formed, the line-up,
releases and stuff like that.
Well, the band was formed in 1995 and since then the line-up changed. We
started as a Grind-core band, than we played Doom-Death Metal and than we
changed to Dark Metal, what we play today...
In the beginnig we had a different Bass-player and another Lead Guitarist.
Eike (Vocals/Guitar) and André (Drums) were in the band from the beginning.
I joined the band in the end of 1995 on Keyboards. In 1997 Torsten (Bass)
joined us and since 1998 Jörn (Lead Guitar) is also a part of DARK AGE. We
released two official demos ("Doubtful Existence" (1996) and "Doubtful
Existence´97" (1997-of course)) and two albums ("The Fall" (1998) and
"Insurrection (2000)) until today.
2. How would you describe your music? What are your musical influences?
We describe our music as DARK METAL. The reason for that is pretty simple:
We play METAL and it is DARK. Because we use many types of Metal-style such
as Black, Death, Doom, Melodic... this was the easiest way to describe the
music. It´s heavy and melancholic
We have various kind of influences. To name a few: Metallica, Cradle of
Filth, Morbid Angel, Danzig, Emperor, Malmsteen, Katatonia, Dismember,
Maiden, Unleashed... . Some of us also listen to bands like Slipknot and
such stuff. Some people here in Germany does not like that and say we are
not "true" but we don´t give a shit! It´s the Metal-way to do what you
want...
3. What inspires you lyrically? What topics do the lyrics deal with?
Because I´m not the vocalist and can only give you a short answer on that.
We are inspired by the cruelties of mankind, such as war, religious
fanatics, and things like that...
Eike´s writing about what will maybe happen in the future to us and that the
mankind is destroying itself...we all grew up in a friendly neighbourhood,
but we open our eyes and see what is going on in the fucking world.
In general you can say, that Dark Age´s lyrical concept is about human´s
failures...
4. What is the main purpose of your music? Any political/religious message?
I think you can´t say in general that we have a specific political message.
It´s kind of political, because we try to explain what´s wrong in the world
in our eyes, also in the politics. But we don´t say: "Do this, do that!"
That´s the same with religion: We are not satanic or something like that,
because this is religious stuff. In a religion you always have one who tells
you what to do, but we are our own gods...
5. What about live shows? Have you played any gigs lately? How often do you
play live?
We played about 35 gigs thus far and we had some nice experiences with our
shows. Our first "big thing" was in the beginning of 1998 when we played
together with THE CROWN and SACRILEGE in Hamburg. In the beginning of 2000
we did a small tour together with TEMPLE OF THE ABSURD in Eastern Germany.
The biggest thing for us was of course the WACKEN:OPEN:AIR this year. We
opened on Saturday at 10.00 o´clock in the morning, but it was great. We
attracted about 500 to 1000 people and this was a big killer for us. Of
course we got food and drinks for free and we meet a lot of so-called
important people and had a lot of fun...
We also played together with "Thyrfing" and "Primordial" in Hamburg and with
several well-known German bands like "Die Apokalyptischen Reiter" or
"Eisregen"
6. How is the metal scene in your area? Are you in contact with other
bands?
The scene is split-up in Hamburg. On the one side we have the True Metal
guys, whom I personally do not like and we have some Black and Death Metal
freaks here. According to the size of Hamburg (2.5 million people) the scene
is very small. So cool bands come from here, such as the Black Metal bands
"Frostmoon Eclipse" or "Sanguineus" or the doom band "Querimonia". Not to
forget "Liquid God", look next question for details on that killer...
We are in contact with bands in and around Germany, such as "Adorned Brood"
and "Everticum" (the latter kick the best ass!!!!)
7. Is anybody in your band involved in other projects? If yes, who and
which?
Jep...our vocalist also plays just guitar in "Liquid God", which is a
strange mixture out of Morbid Angel and the psychopathic parts from Marylin
Manson...the description sounds strange, the music is strange...I hope they
bring out a record soon, because I want to have it!
Our drummer plays in the "Barbaric Heavy Metal" band "Stormwarrior". They
are cool too, it´s straight foreward Heavy Metal in the old way with spikes,
chains and leather, just all the clichées...
They released two demos thus far and they are now signed to the label we are
on: Remedy Records
8. What is the best cd / demo you have heard in the last month?
I think that´s indeed the new "Cradle of Filth" album "Midian". This album
kills you again and again, I´m really looking foreward to see Cradle live!
9. What was the last concert you went to? What was the best concert you
have been at?
Besides the Everticum-gig? :)
I went to In Flames/Sentenced/Dark Tranquillity last. This was alright, but
I prefer the old records of "In Flames" and "Dark Tranqullity", coz they are
faster... :)
The best concert I have been to was Metallica, I think...yes...and the
Samael concert on their "Ceremony of Opposites"-Tour with real drums!
10. What kind of beverage is your favourite? Any special brands? Do you do
any drugs?
Nice question...
Well we drink various kinds of alcohol. Beer, of course...Vodka, Tequilla,
Whiskey and such stuff...I prefer Wodka with Orange juice.
Our Lead Guitarist is the only one who smokes dope, so you can say the rest
of us are wussies... :)

11. What can really piss you off?
Very so-called "True" people, who take themself so serious and try to say
others what to do...that goes for all kind of people!
And fascists of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12. What are you plans for the future? Gigs, releases and so on.
We haven´t planned anything, but there will be some gigs in 2001 and we
start writing our next album soon.
I think more variousity will be in it...but for sure it´s harder than
anyone´s dick!!!!!!!
