Together Together

*** This is one of my favorite poems; it was written about a Smashing Pumpkins concert that I didn't actually get to go to.... *@#$%^ parents! I hope that everyone gets the chance to experience what I'm talking about here at least once in their lives. ***

a crowd of youth crammed together
pressed in until all the fear and shyness and meanness
is pressed out
wait in eager anticipation
mouths open, chirping to be fed
strain their eyes for a glimpse of their messiah
feed us!
give us yourself and we will give ourselves
all to one another
all in communion

then they appear
gods raised above the mass
presiding over the rites

and the first sweet notes break
and pierce the waiting like honey-tipped bullets with butterfly wings
jerking them around and opening them up
the pounding replaces their heartbeats
until no blood but sound runs through their veins
they give themselves up to it
it is the worship, trance
meditation of the young generation
their bodies are not their own
instead, they are each other's
everyone's

so, and dance
do whatever
it matters not now what people think of you
nor who you touch, or run into
for we are one
family
as the cells of the body are family

you are the youth, the hope, the generation
and you can take over this fucking world

mosh
push it
give until you reach the edge
and then give more
until you go past the edge,
past you
into....everyone
forever
eternal
together together

sweat drips from the walls and ceiling
glimmering like blood in the colored lights
that shoot through the smoke so thick that their beams are apparent

mosh

then suddenly it ends
all too soon

silence cracks the wall of sound
and guitars crash tinkling down like glass, into the curtains
the cloud of smoke/sweat/scream/transcendence
is chased away by the harshness of flourescence

the creature fades back into its individual parts
and they flee the light
streaming out the exits
running to the stars
back into themselves their cars their homes their friends
their coccoons

but they will always remember
always seek
that moment to be
together together
