There will be a third story, To Die For, coming out soon. ******** _Hey, Jyira, you got mail,_ Cordelia called out, waving an envelope at Jyira. Jyira took it, studying it. The envelope was large and white, written in elegant handwriting. The name on the letter said *Jyira Keller*. Her surname wasn_t Keller. Veraneti was her surname. Of course, after her change she_d just dropped it. But this was the fifth piece of mail she_d had delivered to this address. She tore the envelope open, pulling out a fancy piece of stationary with the name House of Drache printed at the top. If she remembered correctly, Drache was the family who ruled the Night World shapeshifters. It was some sort of invitation, a reunion of some sort. But why should that concern her? She wasn't a shapeshifter. She wasn_t even a vampire any more. Just plain old human. Which was fine with her. The other letters had been headed House of Keller. Another shifter family, one of cats. There was one who worked for Daybreak, Raksha, who just used Keller as her name, since Raksha meant _demon._ She didn_t blame the other girl for not wanting to use the name. _So, what is it? Another _secret admirer_ letter?_ Cordelia asked, leaning over the desk to see. Unable to explain the letters, Jyira had come up with a cover story of _secret admirer_. Of course, Angel had no idea about these letters, and she had sworn Cordelia to secrecy. So far, she had been able to keep her mouth shut, which was a remarkable surprise. Before Jyira could do anything about it, Cordy had taken the letter from her and skimmed it. _Who are the Drache family?_ _They_re a family of Night World shapeshifters. They_re the shapeshifter rules._ _Your name isn_t Keller._ _I know._ _Are you going to this little party thing?_ Jyira took the letter, folding it again and again. Every time she_d received one of these letters, she_d just ignored it. She_d just assumed it was the wrong person and had sent two of the first letters back. But every month since she'd received another one. But now.her curiosity was beginning to get the better of her. She tapped her long red nails on the desk. _You know what? I_m going to go._ _What are you going to tell Angel?_ Jyira smiled. _I_m not going to tell him anything. He doesn_t need to know everything I do._ _He_s kind of going to notice when you_re not here._ Jyira shrugged. _Tell him I_ve gone to visit Willow or something._ She looked up and caught the other girl_s gaze. And held it. _Just *don_t* tell him the truth. I don_t want him hanging over my shoulder twenty-four hours a day._ She sighed. Angel_s over protectiveness was really starting to get on her nerves. She loved him to death, he was her soulmate, she knew she'd never be the same without him. But lately, he_d been driving her mad. She needed some time to herself. If she told him something like that. he_d probably understand, but she didn_t want to hurt his feelings. So it was best to probably tell him nothing at all. _But what if Angel calls Willow and asks to speak to you?_ Jyira sighed again. _Then make something up._ Cordelia sighed this time, watching Jyira as she went downstairs to pack. _If I get fired it_s your fault, and you_re going to be dead again. Permanently._ Jyira waved a careless hand over her shoulder. _Whatever._ She hurried into the room she shared with Angel and grabbed a small travel bag, stuffing a few clothes and some shoes inside. She wasn_t exactly sure what would happen when she got to the place mentioned on the letters, or what it would be like. She gathered the ones she_d saved from their hiding place inside an old book in her bedside draw and threw them in as well. She left a quick note for Angel, telling him she was going out of town for a while, not to look for her, and not to be worried. She_d call him when she got the chance. She left then, before she lost her nerve, wondering just what she was getting herself into here. * * *
