70s invasion ; STEVE HARLEY and COCKNEY REBEL

COCKNEY REBEL - ' HUMAN MENAGERIE ' lp '73

A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What one can be, one must be. --Abraham Moslow

I tell you, the more I think, the more I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people. --Vincent van Gogh

My mother said to me, 'If you become a soldier, you'll be a general; if you become a monk, you'll end up as the pope.' Instead, I became a painter and wound up as Picasso. --Pablo Picasso

As artists, we must learn to be self-nourishing. We must become alert enough to consciously replenish our creative resources as we draw on them. --Julia Cameron

as a band STEVE HARLEY and COCKNEY REBEL were one of the most daring and fascinating groups to evolve out of the glam era, they wrote some of the best songs of the day and gave ROXY music a good run for their money, in fact we give HARLEY the edge over FERRY and co. but not by a huge margin, ROXY were a musical force in their own world, COCKNEY REBEL leaned a bit more towards glam pop, allthough some songs mainly 'DEATH TRIP', showed the band to be light years ahead of the rock world at the time......

please see our reviews near the top of the homepage of the 70s invasion, plus lyrics there and on page 4....

glam and pop compilation of '74, note ; 'MR SOFT'

Mr soft, turn around and force the world To watch the things you're going through Mr soft, believe everything they tell you And be dammed if they'll thank you

You paint everything so cruel, Coming on like mrcool; Paint your face and shut the gate, Noone's coming home till late

Don't you know, life gets tedious enough Without this extra grudge to bare You. so slow, shift your ideas, make your mind up In a jiffy, let's be fair

We'll be taking off tonight, Turn off your eyes and shut the light, You're the most, you're so unreal We'd all be dead without your spiel!

Mr soft, go to town and bring the dawn in, In the morning on your way Mr soft, put your feet upon the water And play jesus for the day

You begin to hear them mumble, Spot the starman, rough-and-tumble, Fight the good fight, sling your axe. Watch the speaker lead the packs
