June 12, 2010      Bergman Park
The Al Taylor Memorial Home Run Derby is being held to honor and remember Al Taylor who was known throughout the baseball and softball community. He first became nationally recognized when he pitched in the minor leagues with the Detroit Tigers' minor league team and the Jamestown Falcons. Then in his later years he became very involved in softball umpiring and baseball coaching in Jamestown. Suddenly, in 2001 he was diagnosed and passed away of pancreatic cancer. As families who have been affected by cancer know, it is a difficult time for everyone and we don't want our future generations to endure the pain that this disease causes. That is why we are raising money for the American Cancer Society to support funding for cancer research and to help those battling cancer. Every $100,000 raised supports one research study that may be the cure and we wish to help contribute to that cure in any way possible.
