**WERE THEY ALL PAID TO SHUT THEIR MOUTHS?**

I always wonder about the people who used to know David before he got famous. Like for example that girl Carol Goldsmith,if it wasn't for her George wouldn't have gotten David the two different eyes* ("bowie? oh, the one with the two different eyes!"), wouldn't you want to thank her for it?

*Did you notice that every bowie-site mentions that incident?____

I think it's weird that you never hear from any of them. I'd be very proud of it !! :)

If you are interested in David Bowies' early days read on. I've collected some quotes that db's old friends, like Dana gillespie, george underwood,... have to say about him.

ANGEL FROM SUBURBIA

Dana Gillespie with David

"He took me home,"says ex-girlfriend Dana Gillespie , "but i'd lived such a sheltered life in Knightsbridge that I'd never been to a row of terrace houses. David told me then that he wanted to get out. I was stunned. He was like this blond angel that didn't seem to fit in the place where he was brought up. One has to say thank god for suburbia, because it made that man burn so much to get out that he did get out. And he didn't get out blinkered, he got out with an open mind to try and do everything."

DAVIES LOOKS

"He came through the french windows," recalls the Manish Boys' organist Bob Solly ,"dressed in thigh-length bucksin boots and a bucksin waistcoat. He was striking even then, a complete individual, a peacock."

"I first met him at the Marquee,"says Dana Gillespie , "and my parents thought he was a girl; he looked like Veronica Lake. His hair was much longer than the Beatles. Onstage, he wore these Sherrif of Nothingham-type boots, a Russian peasant's shirt and a waistcoat. He was certainly different looking. If you wore knee-length suede boots with long straight hair, you weren't the normal person on the street. He was always an outsider in that regard."

Jeff Dexter :"I thought he was a poof, but I thought anybody with long hair was a poof in those days! We were all narcissists. He had a look, a long-haired dandy style, a bit ahead of the times. Helooked more like someone out of stage school than a rock-star-and I adored him."So,too, did the girls.

LOVE

"He was a ladies' man," says Bob Solly. "In fact, he was almost obsessional with women. Wereas we'd get rid of groupies as quickly as possible, he'd have relationships with them."

Gillespie :"I think david's romance has always been more with himself than with anyone else."About Hermione(the auburnhaired woman immortalised on Letter To Hermione): "One day he came over and saidshe's left me, or that it wouldn't work out, and he was in tears."

So once again, when you are, by an extraordinary coincidence, one of Daves' old mates, let me know! (jasminsane@hotmail.com)
