ROCKY'S RECOMMENDED LINKS

I am occasionally asked to recommend links to other Voyager fiction and sites. Here are some of my top picks:

m.c. moose This is the best VOY author out there, folks.  No one, and I mean no one, does Janeway better. I particularly like the insights into Janeway's past, and her life pre-Voyager. Start with the "Tapestry Trilogy", and then go on to "Auld Lang Syne: Janeway's Verse" and "Wolf Tracks." Or, if you prefer, follow m.c.'s chronology. Every single story on this page is a gem.

monkee  monkee's forte is taking the 'little things' and creating something beautiful. Whether it's humor or romance or 'rebuttal fic', monkee always, always comes up with a wonderful tale. I particularly like her emphasis on the interactions between the characters. My favorites: "Finding Peace", "Command Styles", "Repercussions", "M'Ina"...and many, many more. monkee has thoughtful and thought-provoking episode reviews from season 5 on, and also has branched out into ENT stories and episode reviews.

CyberMum  I am continually struck by the amazing things CyberMum does with rhymes. She conveys so much in just a phrase; each word is carefully chosen, and yet she makes it look so effortless. And she has shown time and again that she is equally at home in the world of prose as she is in poetry. Check out her Season Reviews (5, 6 & 7), "Experimental Tale", "Advice For A Captain Who Definitely Needs Some", as well as her stories.

Christina    A story by Christina is easily recognizable by her interesting, tightly knit plots and her trademark humor. Whether it's an episode coda, a speculative story on the direction in which an episode is going to go, or a stand-alone, you know you're always in for a great read. Recommended Voyager stories: "Covert Actions" , "Paperwork" and her "Shattered" coda. Christina has some amazing Star Wars epics as well.

Ragpants   Ragpants is a very talented author who writes humorous tales as well as ones that are incredibly moving. My favorites among her stories include "He Bops", "A Promise Kept", "A Duty to the Ship" and "Galactic Distance, As Measured By the Heart." Ragpants has some ENT stories as well.

Seema has written stories for every Trek series except TOS, but her efforts to date have concentrated primarily on DS9 and VOY. Each time, she manages to get the details and characters *right*. In terms of VOY, Seema is a P/Ter, but has been known to dabble in other pairings as well--check out her J/C. Top Picks: "One Hundred Days", "Lines In The Sand", "Beneath A Sky Of A Thousand Stars" and "All Things" (DS9). Seema is also my partner in the Glory Days Universe series, and all of those stories are most definitely recommended <g>.

Penny Proctor aka EJ Andrews As prolific as she is talented, Penny has lots of goodies for readers to choose from, spanning every Trek series. Recommended stories: "I Will Come Again My Love", "Siren Song (To Be Borg)", "Oasis", "Shaking It Off" (ENT) and "Vigil" (TOS).

Michele Masterson One of the classic J/C writers. Check out "The Instant Made Eternity", one of the finest "Killing Game" based stories out there, and "Contrition" which just may be the best J/C story I've ever read. It certainly ranks among the top five.

YCD Another classic J/C writer, who certainly does not need my recommendation, but I would be remiss if I did not include her among my 'must reads.' There are so many good stories here, I can't even begin to specify. Just read them all.

Djinn Primarily a TOS writer, Djinn has written one of the most moving VOY stories I've ever come across, "Barriers", a coda to "Shattered." There are some other VOY tales here too (check out "Another Bad Night" and "The Day of the Dead"), and plenty of TOS stories (I strongly recommend "Souls in Velvet Night" for the incredible journey it takes the reader on and please take the time to read the Carter series). There is also some ENT.

Voyager Virtual Season 7.5  Virtual Voyager Season 7.5 takes you back to the last half of the show's final season. Departing from canon after "Shattered", our virtual season follows the crew of the starship Voyager in their continuing journey, as they take on new challenges in their quest for home. We've got it all: intricate plots, exciting battles, new discoveries, and most of all.... the Voyager characters as they should have been all along. Currently in Year 3.

(Check out the VVS7.5 credits page for links to the home pages all of the talented authors participating in this project.)

1001 group A collection of perhaps the finest J/C writers out there, this contains links to their homepages where you'll discover a treasure trove of stories. Be sure to check out the 'Challenges' page as well.

BEYOND VOYAGER

Well before there was VOY, there was TOS, and to this day the first Trek series is still very dear to my heart. Here is a sampling of some of the writers whose works I enjoy:

Wildcat I am continually blown away by this writer's wonderful narrative and characters (both canon and original) who brim with life. Her portrayal of Spock is among the finest I've seen, and I don't believe there is any writer who does a better job with Uhura. Saavik is another character handled masterfully in her journey from 'wild child' to Starfleet officer. Recommended: the entire S/U series, with special emphasis on "The Other Woman", "Bright Shining As The Sun" and "Thaya."

Jungle Kitty I really enjoy this author's portrayal of Kirk, the insights into his character as well as his relationship with an OC who has more life and spark to her than many canon characters. My top picks: "Ridiculous Liasions", "The Siege Perilous", "Contemplating The Death Of An Old Friend", "What Lies Within" and "The Family Mythology."

JWinter A master of the action-adventure tale, J is the author of the "Alliance" series, an original ship and crew with incarnations in both the TOS and TNG eras, as well as several stories dealing with various canon characters pre-TOS. Above all, I enjoy reading the exploits of T.J. Durant, one of many characters beautifully drawn without being unrealistically 'larger than life.' Top picks: "Yesterday's Heroes", "Pretzel Logic" and "Blind Leading The Blind."

Lori The best TNG writer out there, Lori has done her share of P/C, but her major accomplishment is the incredible AU "Captain and Counselor" series. Not a pairing that usually comes to mind, and yet Lori has really made it work. Each story is a densely woven tale which works on several levels--romance, action-adventure, intrigue and so much more. OC's are also handled deftly. Check out Lori's humorous works as well.
