A STORYBOOK ROMANCE
Chapter Three

Jack and Rose ran as fast as they could, trying to get away from Lovejoy. "Didn't we just do this last night?" Jack asked with a laugh.

Rose knew this was no laughing matter. But, there was Jack for you. Even in the worst of times, he always wanted to try to make her feel better...safer. That was one of the things that she loved about him the most.

As Jack started to speed ahead faster, dragging Rose behind, he decided where they would run to. He wasn't going to take her back to his room, he knew better. So, he decided to run to second class.

As the two lovers raced down the corridors of second class, a laugh escaped both of their lips. Most of the people were starring at them in awe. There was a pretty, first class women in a beautiful dress. Then, there was a handsome third class man running along the side of her.

Jack quickly looked behind his shoulder and saw that Lovejoy was gaining on them. "Come on, Rosie," Jack managed to get out.

He found a door that read "Crew Only" and opened it. It was completely dark in there. They stayed in there until they heard Lovejoy's footsteps fade.

"That was a close one, huh?" Jack asked with a smile. He opened the door and looked around him. Lovejoy was now long gone.

"We better get out of here," Jack muttered. He took her hand, and they walked down to third class. They went into a large room. There were a few men playing cards, and a couple of women holding their babies and talking friendly. Jack and Rose both found a quite little spot in the corner. Most people were eating lunch, so they were kind of alone. They sat behind a small table, making sure that Lovejoy would not find them.

"Come here," Jack said when he sat down. He motioned for Rose to sit in between his legs. She did, and he wrapped his arms around her. "Glad we got out of that one," Jack said as he kissed Rose on top of her head.

"Me too," Rose agreed.

Jack was glad they had gotten away, but he knew they were not safe forever. But, something more important than that stayed in Jack's mind. He knew that he needed to tell Rose this before he blew up inside.

"Rose..." Jack started. "I need to tell you something. Something that will change the lives of both of us." Rose could tell what Jack needed to tell her was very important. She could tell by the gleam in his eye. "It's three very important words."

Rose smiled inside. She had a hunch what those three words were. "I like you?" Rose guessed.

Jack started to laugh. "Nope, but you're close, Rose."

Rose pretend to think. She couldn't keep her smile from forming. "I hate you?" Rose asked, shocked at her own words. She started to laugh along with Jack.

"That's impossible," Jack said with a smile. "I could never hate you. No matter what." Jack sighed, completely giving up on the guessing game. "I love you, Rose."

Rose's smile became brighter, and she leaned forward to kiss him. As she opened her mouth, she could fell the love between them. It was a long, passionate kiss. "I love you, too," Rose said as she looked deeply into his blue eyes.

This time, Jack leaned in and started the kiss. As the kiss grew, Rose pulled back. "They'll be looking for us..."

Jack nodded. He knew it was true. He wasn't sure what his plan was. All he knew was that he could not let Cal or Lovejoy lay a hand on Rose. He need to protect her. He needed to be there for her.

"Listen, Rose," Jack said. "I'm not going to let them hurt you. I promise."

Rose could barely keep the tears from falling down her face. "I don't want to lose you."

Jack smiled with a nervous laugh. "Hey, you're not gonna loose me."

Rose tried to smile as Jack wiped away her remaining tears with his fingers. She could tell be the way he looked at her that he was in love with her. There was not a single doubt in her mind.
