ROSE AFTER TITANIC
Chapter Sixteen
Rose was cleaning up the kitchen
when the phone rang. She dried her hands on a towel. "Hello," she
said.
"Hi, Rose. Are you sitting
down?"
"No. Why?"
"Please sit down."
Rose sat down. "All right,
Jack. What is it?"
"I just sold a painting for
over twenty thousand dollars."
“Jack, that is wonderful. Who
bought it?”
"A very rich business man
from London."
"Jack, let's
celebrate."
"Good idea. Let's go to that
expensive restaurant we always wanted to try."
"Sounds good. When will you
be here?"
"About one hour."
"All right. I will be
ready.”
*****
Rose was getting ready when there
was a knock on the door.
Thinking it was either Jack or
Cal, she went to answer it.
"Can I help you?"
The stranger pushed his way
inside.
"What do you want?"
"I got a message from Cal's
father to find you and Cal."
"Tell him you could not find
us."
"I can't do that."
"Well, I am not going with
you willingly."
The stranger was about to force
Rose to go with him when Rose heard a police car pull into the driveway.
The stranger heard it, too. He
tried to escape, but was caught.
Rose sighed with relief and
finished getting ready.
