MY HEART BELONGS TO YOU
Chapter Three
"Bloody, it has to be at least below
zero out here," Kevin said.
"You can say that again," Rachel
said.
"Bloody, it has to be at least zero out
here," Kevin said, smiling at Rachel. Rachel smiled back and blushed, then
looked down.
"Oy, look at this one," Teddy said,
pointing to a pine tree with a saw.
"Teddy, that has to be two times bigger
than our house!" Hannah said.
Rose and Jack laughed.
"Are you sure we're still in the tree
farm?" Donald asked.
"Yes, I'm sure. It's just that once in a
while you have to encounter a big tree like this sometimes," Teddy said.
"Oh," Donald said.
"How about this one, Jack," Rose
said.
"That's a good one. It would look really
good right by the window," Jack said.
"Well, how about it? Is this one?"
Rose asked.
"This is it," Jack said, starting
chopping the tree down. "Timber!" Jack said as the tree fell.
Rose smiled; it has been a while since she
herself has actually gotten a Christmas tree.
"How about this one?" Teddy said.
"Teddy, that's itty bitty!" Hannah
said, as they looked down on it.
"Well, what kind of tree DO you want?
First one was too big, now this one is too small," Teddy said.
"Oy, haven't you picked out a tree
before?" Hannah asked.
"Yes." Teddy chuckled.
"How about this one?" Kevin asked.
"Yes, this would look perfect in the
office," Rachel said.
"The office?" Kevin asked.
"Of course, it has to go in the office.
You can't have a doctor's office not decked for the holiday season,"
Rachel said.
"May I ask how many you are planning on
getting?" Kevin asked.
"Just one. Yes, this will do
nicely," Rachel said.
"All right, then," Kevin said, and
he started to chop down the tree. "Timber!"
"Donald, aren't you getting one?"
Rose asked.
"No, I just came for the fun of
it," Donald replied.
"All right," Rose said.
"Hey, Teddy, have you found a tree
yet?" Jack asked, dragging the tree.
"No, not yet, we can't agree on a
tree," Hannah said.
"We? I gave good selection of trees, and
she all declined them!" Teddy said.
"Jack, do you see that tree right over
there that has its head up?" Hannah said, pointing.
"Yeah," Jack said, squinting his
eyes.
"Well, he wanted that one," Hannah
said.
"Well I don't see any opinions on what
kind of tree that you want," Teddy said.
"How about that one?" Jack said,
pointing to a Douglas fir.
"Perfect!" they both said in
unison.
"Thanks, Jack!" Teddy said.
"Yep," Jack said, walking away to
put the tree on the wagon.
"So, do you fancy anyone around
here?" Rose asked Donald.
"No, not particularly," Donald
said, shaking his head. "Remember that friend of yours from New
York?" Donald asked.
Rose thought for a minute, and said,
"Oh, yes, Jessica! You still like her?"
Donald nodded his head, and said, "Kind
of stupid, huh? I just can't get her out of my mind."
Rose smiled, and said, "Well, the last
time I knew she still fancied you."
Donald looked up, and said, "Really?"
Rose nodded her head and smiled. "When was the last time you talked to
her?" Donald asked.
"It's been a while. It was when I
thought that Jack was dead, remember?" Rose asked.
"Oh, yes. Well, there are a lot of men
in New York. She probably found someone else," Donald said.
Rose shrugged her shoulders, and said,
"I don't know Donald. You never now."
"So, are you planning on putting this up
by yourself?" Kevin asked, dragging the tree for Rachel.
"I don't know if I can," Rachel
said with a chuckle. Kevin smiled, looking at Rachel. "Silly, isn't it? I
can deliver babies, mend people; but I can't put a Christmas tree up,"
Rachel said.
"No, it's not. My mum could have babies
and mend people with kisses of comfort, but when it came to the little things
she couldn't." Kevin smiled.
"So, I take it this is a time to ask you
to help me put up the Christmas tree, now, isn't it?" Rachel asked.
"Yep, that's pretty much it," Kevin
said.
"All right. How about tomorrow around
noon?" Rachel asked.
"I'll be there. I'll take the tree home
with me, and I'll bring it to the office tomorrow."
"Timber!" Teddy yelled.
"It's beautiful!" Hannah said,
giving Teddy a kiss.
"Thanks, if I don't say so myself,"
Teddy said.
"Come on, let's put it on the
wagon," Teddy said, starting to drag it.
"All right," Hannah said.
When all the trees were on the wagons they
all started to talk.
"Jack!" Kevin yelled. Jack turned
around and was suddenly hit with a snowball.
"Hey!" Jack said, kneeling down
making a snowball. Everyone started to laugh, as Jack chased Kevin with a
snowball.
"I was just kidding, Jack. I meant to
hit Teddy!" Kevin yelled.
"Hey, Kevin!" Teddy yelled.
Kevin turned and was hit by a snowball.
"Hey, Teddy!" Donald yelled, and
Donald hit Teddy with a snowball. Soon, all the men were in the snow getting
snowed. Rose, Hannah, and Rachel laughed at the men as they acted like boys. It
only lasted for a while until they decided to back to Jack and Rose's house for
hot chocolate.
"It's nice and warm in here,"
Donald said.
"Why? Isn't the boarding house warm
enough?" Rose asked, stirring some hot chocolate.
"No, I have to sleep with tons of
blankets. Even though I have a fire going in the fireplace," Donald said.
"Oh, that's horrible," Rose said,
taking a sip of her hot chocolate.
"It's not that bad," Donald said.
"Well, why don't you just tell the
boarding house owner?" Rose asked.
"I'm afraid to. She might throw me out.
Then where will I go?" Donald asked.
"Make yourself a house," Jack said.
"I think that might take a while,"
Donald said, chuckling.
"Don't worry, you'll think of
something," Hannah said.
"Thanks for the encouragement,"
Donald said.
"Yep," Hannah said.
"Well, I might as well be on my
way," Kevin said. "Rachel, would you like a ride home?" Kevin
asked.
"Yes, that would be wonderful,"
Rachel said, placing her mug on the counter. "Rose, thank you for letting
me come and get a tree with you." Rachel gave Rose a hug.
"Anytime," Rose said.
"Bye, everyone!" Rachel said.
"Bye!" everyone said in unison.
Everyone watched out the window as Kevin and Rachel left.
"They make the most perfect couple in
Chippewa Falls, don't you think?" Hannah asked.
"They do, don't they," Donald said,
looking out the window.
"Ah, isn't that sweet. He's helping her
into his wagon," Teddy said.
"You know, I feel horrible spying like
this," Rose said.
"Yeah, me too," Hannah said, and
stopped looking out the window.
"Well, I suppose we better go, and get
the tree up," Teddy said.
"All right then. Bye, Rose," Hannah
said, hugging Rose.
"Thanks for coming," Rose said.
"Thanks for inviting us," Teddy
said.
"Bye!" Donald said.
"Bye!" Teddy and Hannah said.
"Well, I shouldn't stay long. Don't want
to miss supper," Donald said. "Jack, Rose, thanks for letting me
come." Donald shook Jack's hand, and hugged Rose.
"Anytime, Donald," Jack said.
"Bye, kid," Donald said, looking
down at Rose's stomach. Donald left, and Rose let out a sigh.
"Well, that was fun," Jack said.
Rose smiled and chuckled as Jack put his arm
around Rose.
