JACK AND ROSE GOING TO EUROPE
Chapter Seven
As they were
walking to the library, they spotted Ruth walking down the hall.
Rose walked up to
her mother, and said, "Jack and I are on our way to the library. Would you
like to come along?"
"I was just on
my way there."
"There is a
book that Rose wants to find," Jack told Ruth.
"That is the
reason I am going, too," Ruth replied.
"What book are
you trying to find?" Rose asked her mother.
"I am trying
to find the Olympic's shipbuilder book. What about you?"
"I am trying
to find a book on haunted houses and ghosts," Rose replied.
They walked in
silence the rest of the way to the library.
Rose and Ruth
walked up to the person in charge of the second class library.
"Do you have a
copy of the shipbuilder’s book for this ship?" Ruth asked.
"Yes, we do
have a copy."
"Do you have
any books on haunted houses and ghosts?"
"Yes, we have
a whole collection of that type of book."
Ruth took the book
and went to sit down in a nearby chair.
Rose went to the
haunted house and ghost collection, and tried to find the book she was looking
for.
Jack went over to
the magazine rack, and picked up a couple of magazines to read on the voyage.
A few minutes
later, Rose walked up to Jack, who was still standing by the magazine rack.
"I found what I was looking for."
"Are you ready
to check out, then?"
"Yes, I
am."
"Okay. Let's
go, then."
After they told
Ruth they were leaving, they checked out.
*****
Cal was still
unconscious, but was starting to wake up.
The doctor did not
know how long it would take.
Lucy walked into
the ship’s hospital after her break.
"Any change in
him?"
"He is still
unconscious, but just started to wake up."
"Do you want
me to do anything?"
"Yes. Please
go to the bar and get me a glass of ginger ale," he replied, handing her a
quarter.
"Okay.
Anything else?"
"No. That will
do for now."
With that, the
nurse went to get the doctor his daily ginger ale.
A few minutes later
she returned with it, and with a glass of grape juice for herself.
"I hope you
don't mind. I got myself a glass of grape juice out of that quarter you gave me
to get you a ginger ale."
"Not at
all."
They sat down and
kept an eye on Cal, who was almost awake by then, but not fully yet.
*****
Jack and Rose
walked into their cabin and locked the door behind them.
"So, what do
you want to do now?" Jack asked.
"How about if
we just read this book together?" Rose suggested.
"How about,
instead of reading the book here, we go out on deck?"
"Okay,"
Rose agreed.
"But leave
your book here. We can read it later tonight."
"Okay, but
why?"
"Just leave
your book here. You will see why in a few minutes," he told Rose, as he
was leading her to a surprise party out on the boat deck.
