THE CHIPPEWA FALLS DAWSONS
Chapter Five
Jack and Rose boarded the train to Chippewa
Falls. They were happy to get out of New York. Less chance to run into Cal, and
they were looking forward to getting married. Jack thought that they could stay
with one of the many families that had farms near his old one. They had all
offered to let him stay after the fire, and he was sure at least one of them
would extend the offer again. Jack and Rose decided that they didn’t want
anyone to know that they had met on the Titanic. So they planned to
simply say they had met, and fallen in love right away. Jack was hoping that
they could stay with Mike Leary’s family. Mike had been his best friend growing
up, and Jack had missed him. Jack grew sad as he thought of Fabrizio. Fabrizio
had been his friend in Europe, and Jack would miss him, too. Jack didn’t even
know how he had died, just that he wasn’t on the Carpathia. Jack looked
over at Rose, who was sleeping quietly. She looked so beautiful, he had to lean
over and kiss her.
I would give up everything to make her happy, he thought. He saw her smile sleepily when he kissed
her. Jack laid his head down on the seat beside her and fell asleep.
