CAL'S LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE
Chapter Seven

Rose was sleeping when Jack walked in. "Hi, sleepyhead."

Rose sat up and rubbed her eyes. "What time is it?"

"Around noon."

"Jack, can you do me a favor?"

"Sure."

"Get me a ginger ale."

"I already did," Jack replied, handing it to her.

"Thank you. Do you want to share?"

"No, thank you."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. I’d better get going."

"Why, you just got here."

"I have one of my drawings up at the local art gallery."

"Good luck."

"Thank you."

After Jack left, Rose read for awhile before falling back asleep.

Cal's stepmother was still holding his hand when he opened his eyes.

"Cal, I am glad you came out of your coma."

"I had the chance to see all of the mistakes that I made in my life," Cal replied weakly.

"What do you mean?"

"My mother took me on a journey to the past."

"I thought your mother was killed by one of the help."

"She was killed, all right, but not by one of the help. She was killed by my father for trying to help a servant escape."

"Cal, I think you were dreaming while you were in the coma."

"No, I was not," Cal replied as tears filled his eyes.

Lucy Hockley did not believe him, but would soon find out that he was telling the truth.
