Teslier is a new Weyr in Pern Fandom, set in an alternative timeline during the Second Long Interval. The present turn is 2392, and Thread is due to fall in 13 short turns. The BoD asks that you read the guide thoroughly before creating a persona. Now, as said, this is an alternative timeline. AIVIS won't be found, due to the fact it is buried so deeply.

BoD-

Our BoD is made up of 4 members, and we are the ones who do a lot for the Weyr, mundane-wise. BoD is the acronym for Board of Directors, for those who aren't familiar with the term.

Teslier's BoD is:

Weyrwoman Tikathi -Amanda- Cloudley@juno.com
Junior Weyrwoman Treviata -Rana- lgueck@direct.ca
Junior Weyrwoman Neala -Cleo- cleostarfire@yahoo.com

Amanda is the one who collects all applications and sheets, and basically runs around like a wherryhen with her head chopped off. Amanda approves persona sheets. Cleo is our wonderful webmistress, as well as our wonderful zine-manager. Rana keeps our morale up, and is usually in charge of the Weyr when our Leaders are off in RL-la-la-land.

Pern's Past and Teslier's Founding

During the 8th Pass of the Red Star, there were 7 Weyrs filled with dragons. Those of course were: Fort, Benden, Telgar, Ista, High Reaches, Igen, and Southern. In each Weyr there was at least 4 golds, and each were producing more dragons. It was said that at the end of the Pass, the Weyrleaders would create a new Weyr to take the strain off. But, due to the deaths caused by the irresponibilty of riders, (Fall was beginning to slack off, and they were getting comfortable in their abilities to char), they figured they would put it off. For 200 turns Holders and riders enjoyed the Interval, and Pern prospered. When it came time for Thread to fall, it didn't. There was a little rumor going around that maybe Thread had stopped, until a wise Harper researched and discovered they were in a Long Interval.

More time passed, and slowly, the numbers began to increase, little by little. The older dragons, the ones hatched at the beginning of the Pass, had died off. Pern was beginning to prepare for the 50 turns of fighting. So when the 6th gold was laid at Ista, the Weyrleaders decided that was the time to put their plan into motion. Sweep riders were sent around to look for a good Weyr location, and preferrably in the south, since more and more people had been building holds there.

The Masterharper began the foundations of his dream crafthall, a place where many Master's could gather to teach their crafts; and it was set too far from Southern Weyr to be protected. Two locations were presented as possible sites, and the one chosen was the larger one. The Weyr was an abandoned crater, surrounded by lush forest. Unfortunately, there was a lot of debris to be cleared before they could began transferring dragonpairs and weyrfolk.

By 2390, the Weyr was cleared, and the Crafthall was finished. Every Weyr began transferring riders to the new Weyr, which was named Teslier, after the rider who had suggested the crater. A Hold was set near the Crafthall, for visitors to stay in or people who were having a vacation. Firelizards are in an abundance, and often seen playing in the lake in Teslier.

Teslier itself is large and very well spread out. It is egg-shaped, and breaks down on one side. 4 Fingers run along the top of the bowl, as well as a edge of the Northern rim that dips down low. There are accomodations for over 675 dragonpairs and 300 are in use now, the general dragon population under the age of 7 turns. The queens' weyrs are positioned on the right side and above the Hatching Grounds, with there being 6 of those. Along the bottom of the Weyr are entrances to many caverns. The Hatching Grounds is the largest and opens East to allow morning sun, while there is a large air pocket on in the back which easily lets in Western sun as well. Further down the edge is a entry way to the lower caverns, with linking corridors to the queens' weyrs, the barracks, storage rooms, the dining hall and, of course, the kitchens. Also, there are several open weyrs on the bottom floor for mating flights and visiting people. Usually, riders are given their choices of available weyrs, and most wings like to place their weyrs in the same general area.

The Hatching Grounds are large, and there are 3 linked together. Along the insides are shelves made of cliff in which dragons watching may situate themselves on. The Weyrlingmaster's office is in a small cavern that is on the left of the Grounds. Weyrleader's Weyr is above his office, which is directly across the Weyrbowl from the Grounds. The Weyrwoman's office is to the left of the Weyrleader's. Feeding grounds can be found in the northern curve of the Weyrbowl, where the beasts are kept pinned.

Rules- Our's and Anne's

We have two sets of rules to go by, and those are Anne's and ours (the BoD's). Anne's are absolute and not to change, not even a little bend. If you plead hard enough, maybe you can bend the BoD's. But here they are, Anne's first.

1. Gold dragons look only to females, bronze and brown only to men.

2. Goldriders- only heterosexual females
Bronzeriders- only heterosexual males
Brownriders- heterosexual males, the occasional bisexual male, and the very rare homosexual male
Blueriders- homosexual and bisexual males and females, distinct prefrences allowed
Greenriders- homosexual males and females, bisexual and heterosexual females open to female partners.

3. Gold, bronze, brown, blue and green are the only allowable dragon colors. The dragon may be any shade of those colors, but no sport dragons. Ruth was the only. And please, no silver, purple, red or pink dragons with white stripes. Please.

4. Benden Weyr, Ruatha Hold, and the Harpercraft Hall exist but are off-limits to our stories. You may have a character from there, but you cannot write a story in any of those locations.

5. You cannot use any of Anne's characters. No Sorka, no Lessa, no F'lar, Robinton or F'nor. Nope, not even a Brekke or Menolly. And please, no relatives or descendants.

6. There is no religion on Pern. Nor will there ever be. Don't thank God, thank Faranth.

7. Nor is there any magic or elves or faeries. Our dragons are fantasic enough.

8. No one on Pern is psychic. Beyond a dragonrider's ability to hear their lifemate (or the occasional dragon who deems you worthy of talking to), that is all the psychic ability anyone has.

9. No world crossers. There are no Crystal Singers, or even Hive Queens. :) Besides the fact that Pern is in the middle of nowhere, who would ever take the time to go there, when it is already inhabitated?

Now, here are OUR rules...

1. Hearing All Dragons is a rare ability, if you think you're persona should have it, please contact Amanda. There will be 2 positions open, and neither are filled at the moment.

2. Please no 'color wars'. Status is a human trait. If it is seen, the offender will be asked to leave. That consitutes dragon-fighting as well.

3. Keep PG13, and no use of Terran slang or cuss words. Pern is filled with their own version of slang and obscenitites. For a list of Pern oaths and swear words, see the Dragonlover's Guide to Pern by Jody Lynn Nye. If you don't have DLG, ask a member, they'd be glad to help.

4. Timing is a no-no. We won't be allowing it because not only does it add chaos, but it is very dangerous. It is taught to Weyrlings in the early stages of learning to ::between:: . If any rider is caught doing it, it will earn you a lecture by the Weyrwoman, or Weyrlingmaster, depending on the case.

5. Major plots, (such as Weyr-wide plots, or ones that can endanger a character), should be run by the BoD before usage. Not that we don't love plotting... :)... because we do!

6. On Teslier, we ask that you use a standard method of dragon to rider communication. Firelizards tend to convey images and feelings.

{{Dragon to rider}} [[Dragon to human]]

((Human to dragon)) >>Human to dragon<<

~~firelizard images/feelings~~

7. Please keep the amount of firelizards your character has to a minimum. 3 to start with is maximum. And if your character has a gold, that character won't get another. Also, we are trying to keep the metallic's well spread, that way no one persona will have a gold, as well as 3 bronzes.

8. We are reserving the right to ask you to change something on your persona sheet, even after approval. After all, we are all humans, and things do get by. We will do our best not to abuse this right.

9. Gold eggs will now only be clutched when there is sufficient membership and we see a member very deserving of the great honor it is. Not to mention great writing abilities and a general helpful attitude.

Status Positions

Here at Teslier, we have many positions open. Now that we also have our zine up and running, we ask that you meet requirements for each of these positions. We're pretty lenient, but if there is a lack in stories and we see status positions without stories, we know someone who will be losing that status position. In addition to writing stories, be prepared to do small mundane chores that we BoDians might not have time for, or if there is one to be done.

The Zine

Presently, our zine has no name. If you have a name you like, it can be submitted to Cleo at cleostarfire@yahoo.com The Zine will come out 4 times a calendar year, hopefully in Febuary, May, August, and November. Months occasionally change due to personal reasons (other Weyr deadlines, mid-terms for more then 1 person..), etc. Zines come out in email, as an attachment. Due to the way we publish them, they are free in cost. Someday, as we get more accustomed to the Weyr, maybe we'll have the option of hard copy (a real paper zine in your hands). But thats in the future.

The Requirements

Now, we understand that some people like to create personas, and are rather talented in doing so. As long as you can keep up with the RPing side of the persona, and the requirments s/he might have, then go for it. Generally we ask the stories that you submit for a requirement be about that persona. Artwork, and poetry also equal the same as a story. If you don't keep up, either that persona will be demoted, or you will be asked to give it up. To meet all your requirements, co-writting is suggested. Each co-authored story will count as half a story for each author. Not only does this knock out requirements quickly, but it helps you get to know the people in the weyr. We reserve the right to edit stories.

Weyrwoman
The Weyrwoman is a busy person. Examining everyone's persona sheets, keeping peace, and trying to be a high school student! The Weyrwoman should have a story in every zine. But if you don't see one, don't worry. She isn't dead... :) She will also write one weyr report each calendar year. Your Weyrwoman's name is Tikathi, and she is the rider of Illiath. If, for any reason, you need to contact her, Ti is one of Amanda's alter-ego's, reachable at Cloudley@juno.com Instant messages at Cloudley are always welcome.

Weyrleader The Weyrleader is supposed to write a story for every zine as well.

Junior Weyrwomen
Our Junior Weyrwomen are also busy creatures. They should also try and get a story in every zine. If for some reason, they don't have a story, its alright. Cleo is busy with the zine AND the webpage, while Rana has a 2 year old son and several other Weyrs with requirements. Neala, rider to Pimarth has been known to reside in Cleo's head, and they both can be reached at cleostarfire@yahoo.com Treviata is rider to Tschucarrith and Trev is known to possess Rana. They can be reached at lgueck@direct.ca

Weyrleader's Second (open) The Weyrleader's Second would be expected to write 3 stories each year as well as help the Weyrleader with the Wing Report for SkyBurn Wing.

Weyrlingmaster (open) Other then keeping candidates and weyrlings in line, the WLM should be available to write 2 stories a year for the zine. S/he is also responsible for candidate classes and the Weyrling Traning schedule. Presently, we have a NPC Weyrlingmaster, and he is F'dik. When he occasionally surfaces, he can be reached in Amanda's head. Emails to him can be sent to cloudley@juno.com where they will be forwarded to him.

Weyrlingmaster's Assistants (each Weyrling class needs one- open- open to all colors as well)
Two stories and assistance to the Weyrlingmaster. We have one class of weyrlings, and will be having another sometime soon.

Headwoman (open)
The Headwoman should submit about 2 stories a year, as well as one report on the lower caverns. Hayli is our Headwoman, but sadly, no controller. Fortunately, Amanda is kind enough to spare a portion of her mind until someone adopts the gal. You can reach her at cloudley@juno.com

Wingleaders (open)
Wingleaders must ride a bronze, brown or large blue. We expect them to get 3 stories a year in the zine as well as one Wing report. Each wing must have a Wingleader.

Wingseconds (open) Wingseconds can ride bronze, brown, or blue as well. Should have 2 stories, and are asked to help their Wingleader write the report.

Goldriders
Gold dragons are only given to the most deserving people, because of the duties with the job. Goldriders are expected to have 3 stories each year.

Hearing All Dragons (HAD) (open)
No person who HAD will ever Impress a gold dragon. Queen riders who HAD are Anne's turf. We prefer that either one or neither Impress a dragon. HAD personae should have 3-4 stories a year.

Bronzeriders (open)
Bronzeriders need to get 2 stories a year into the zine.

Brownriders (open); Blueriders and greenriders (always open)
None of these have requirements, but we'd like for everyone to have at least one story a year in the zine.

Craftmasters (open)
We're talking about THE Masterdolphineer, THE Masterhealer, THE Masterstarscrafter, etc. These positions are located on the Southern continent. Of course, they do have Northern counterparts, which you may use. With the exception of the Masterharper. He can only be used as a NPC. Three stories and a craft report per year.

Mastercraftmen (open)
Master dragonhealer, master harpers, master healer, etc. Two stories a year, and help THE craftmaster write the craft report.

Journeymen and Apprentices (always open)
No requirements, although we'd love to hear about what they're learning and how their lives are going.

Lord and Lady Holders (open)
Two stories a year, and one Hold report. If you control both, no worries, requirements are the same.

Now, before you rush off to fill out the persona sheet, keep these simple things in mind.. (Yes, even the best of us needs to!)

1. Remember your firelizards! A lot of people seem to have them, and no one writes about them!

2. Try to avoid stereotypes and cliches. Weyrs seem to have a lot of red-haired, blue-eyed chars, purple eyes, twins, blondes that are ditz, red heads with a temper, healers with no training... Please, the list goes on..

3. Try to make interesting characters. People are more defined by their limitations rather then their strengths. And besides, how much fun would a 18 turn Lord Holder's daughter who not only got her mastery in Harpering, but as a gold firelizard and just Impressed the gold hatchling with her ability to Hear All Dargons be? Not much.

After you finish your persona sheet, please send it in a .txt document or email to cloudley@juno.com and mousefang@hotmail.com

The Persona Sheet

Mundane Information--

Real Name: Your name, or the name you prefer to be called

Email address we can reach you at: Self explainatory

Persona Information--

Persona's Name: The name of your character. Remember, all male dragonriders names are to be honorific, and if the character is a candidate, please tell us the name to be honorific. And please tell us the rider's name before Impression as well.

Nicknames: What other names is your character called?

Age: How old is your character? Candidates are between the ages of 13-25, male and female. Candidates younger or older will be accepted only after careful consideration of the BoDians.

Sex/Prefrence: Male? Female? And what sex does s/he prefer their partners to be? (This is optional to fill in, but knowing what prefrence they have makes it easier)

Rank/Position: What does your character do? Drudge? Greenrider? An old auntie with 10 felines? There are status positions open, if you'd like one. Just remember the writing requirements.

Mother: Who is the mother? (Just a name works, but more details is always good.)

Father: Who is the father? (Just a name works, but more details works for us.)

Siblings: Any siblings? Birth control isn't that available for most, so no only-childs. Unless its a rider, and even then there is sometimes half siblings.

Children: Most people over the age of 25 will be parents, unless their sexual prefrence doesn't go that way or if they are riders.

Abilities: What kind of things is your persona really good at? Does s/he whittle wood well? Mend clothing without poking their finger once? :)

Other: Anything else you'd like us to know about them?

Background Information

Place Of Birth: If you chose to write a Northern rider, tell us what Hold, Hall or Weyr. Any person born on the Southern continent would either come from Southern Weyr, Southern Hold or the Crafthall or Apprentice Hold.

Loved Ones/Mentors: Who does the character love or look up to?

Background: This is where you tell us you're characters life story. Did their ma die when they were 8, leaving 5 children for them to look after? Maybe their first fishing trip got them a huge packtail. What do they want to be when they grow up? Do they get along well with siblings, parents or foster parents? Not only do we want to hear all the juicy background details, but this gives you a great chance to get to know your character inside-out.

Descriptions

Eye color: What color eyes does your character have? Remember, eyes aren't just a flat color. And stick to the basics as much as possible, how many violet eyed people do you know? :)

Hair color and style: Anything works!

Height: How tall is your persona? Please do that in feet and inches if you can

Weight/Build: Numbers are great, but they don't tell everything. What is their body type? Willowy? Husky? Or even, voluptous? :) The possibilities are endless, but stick to reality.

Complexion: Albino? Ebony? Beige? Pock-marked? Zitty?

Personality: Sometimes one's personality is reflected by events that happened in their past. It might be helpful to you if you looked through their background. How do they react in stressful situations? Are they horrible with kids because of a bad temper? What do they look for in a mate? Favorite color? Food? Don't forget to have some flaws in there. Are they rude? Or do they just suffer from bad hygenie and not enough sleep..?

Clothing: How do they dress? Remember, down South it gets pretty hot!

Pets: Firelizards, felines, canines, tunnelsnakes, mice, trundle bugs... All are acceptable pets. Name the pet and give it a description. 'Orange feline' works, but is it all orange with no white? Is it tiger striped? Felines and canines make bad pets for riders.

Dragonriders

Dragon's Name: All dragon names end in -th. Please, no Death, Myth or Zenith... We've all seen them. They may be cute to start with, but after awhile it gets pretty hokey. Dragon names are no more then 3 syllables long, and if its hard to say, give us a pronunciation, please.

Color: Gold, bronze, brown, blue or green?

Wing: At the moment we have two wings, and are in the position to be creating more. SkyBurn is the Weyrleader's wing, ThunderDawn is the gold wing.

Strength and Weaknesses: What kind of things is their dragon good at? What things are they not so good at? Able to land well, but not make sharp turns? Or maybe good stamina but really lazy...

Dam/Sire: Who was the gold that clutched, and who was the bronze that mated with her?

Size: Here are the sizes, largest to smallest, for our timeline. They are in feet. As you can see, wingspan is roughly three times the length:

Color Length Wingspan Gold 90/80/70 270/240/210 Bronze 80/70/60 240/210/180 Brown 70/60/50 210/180/150 Blue 60/50/40 180/150/120 Green 50/40/30 150/120/90

Appearance: Periwinkle blue? Jade green? Does their hide lighten in one place, yet darken in another? Any training scars?

Personality: Dragons are characters too, and their personality may be just like their rider, or different in another way. Sleep a lot? Are they easily excited, or angered? Anything they specifically not like?

Hatching Weyr: What Weyr was the dragon hatched at? And it MUST be a Weyr. There was no way your character found the dragon egg on a beach about to hatch!

Crafters

Craft: What craft? Harper? Healer? Tanner? Smith? Starcrafter? Weaver?

Rank: What is their rank- Master, Journeyman or Apprentice? Apprentices start at the age 12. The youngest a journeyman can be is 17 or 18. Masters must be 30 at the youngest. Smithcraft takes a lot longer to advance. Riders are rarely higher then a apprentice, no one wants to throw away their work after walking the tables.

Specialty: What do they do? Specialties come in the journeyman years.

Strength and Weaknesses: What is it that they are good at or not good?

Holders

Hold: There is one major Hold and many minor holds, countless cotholds and farms.

Size: Major, minor or cot?

Rank/Position: What is it that they do there? Lord Holder? Holder (for minor holds)? Headwoman?

Traders

Caravan: What is the name of the caravan?

Size: Is it only 2 wagons, or as many as 9?

Rank/Position: What do they do? Are they a Leader? A wagonleader? Or just a trader child?

Territory: What is their route? What places do they go to?

Once you have filled this out, you may copy and paste in a email, or just send it as a .txt document in an attachment to Amanda at cloudley@juno.com and Joel at mousefang@hotmail.com
