David Duchovny was born in New York City on August 7, 1960. His older brother Danny Ducovny is an award-winning director of commercials. His younger sister Laurie Duchovny is a teacher in New York. Amram Ducovny, David's father, is a retired publicist who currently lives in Paris. Amram has also authored several books. Margaret Duchovny, David's mother, was born in Scotland. She and Amram met in 1957 while both were teaching at a Berlitz school in Paris. During David's childhood, his mother was a housewife. She later returned to the field of teaching and is now an administrator of a grade school in Manhattan. David's parents divorced when he was eleven.
By most accounts, David was a shy child. He told one reporter that his brother used to tell people he was retarded and that's why he didn't talk much. Other traits that became apparent at a young age were his intelligence and his athletic prowess. David received a scholarship to attend Collegiate Prep School. This exclusive school has included such rich and famous students as John Kennedy Jr. David graduated at the top of his class - while also managing to be the school's top point scorer on their basketball team. He also played on the school's baseball team.
From Collegiate, David went on to Princeton. He studied there under scholarship (he was also accepted to Yale, Brown and Harvard). He earned his bachelor's (AB) degree in 1982. His senior thesis was entitled "The Schizophrenic Critique of Pure Reason in Beckett's Early Novels." Yale was next and a Master of Arts (in English Literature) was attained.
It was while pursuing his Doctorate's at Yale that David was bitten by the acting bug. Starring in a series of sometimes off-beat, often low-budget movies, David slowly started building a name for himself in Hollywood. (You can find the complete list of his work at the Internet Movie Database.) As it turns out, however, it was television that would push David's career into the stratosphere.
David is currently starring in the Fox television series "The X-Files," has completed filming a movie based on the same TV show, has seen his movie "Playing God" released to theaters and is still performing hosting duties on Showtime's "The Red Shoes Diaries" series. As if all of this wasn't enough to keep him busy, David wed Téa Leoni, star of the NBC series "The Naked Truth" on May 6, 1997. On April 24, 1999, Téa gave birth to their first child.
