DUOX (Active-Passive Composite Tuned Mass Damper)
Back |

HYBRID CONTROL ENABLES DEVICE SIZE REDUCTION

The DUOX is like a pendulum which a small person propels on it. This person is skillfully controls the degree of the swinging by shifting his weight. Even when the person is not on the pendulum, it naturally swings in synchronization with the motion of the building, so that the vibrations are passively controlled.

The weight of the TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) is about 0.3% to 0.8% of the weight of an above-ground building, while the weight of the AMD is 10% to 15% of the weight of the TMD (equivalent to 0.05% to 0.08% of a building's weight).

FOR SUPERIOR COMFORT IN HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

Vibrations by earthquakes and strong winds are reduced by 2/3

By tuning the vibration of the weight to the natural vibration period of a building, DUOX can control the vibration effectively. Major vibrations caused by earthquakes up to a Japanese seismic intensity of 5, springtime gales, and two-thirds reduces strong typhoons.

Compact and outdoor installation

The high-performance DOUX system is compact and can therefore be used in towers or buildings with small floor areas. This all-weather device is designed to be installed outside and requires no special room for installation. The device can easily be installed on the roof of an existing building.

Energy-saving system

The device incorporates a trigger operation that turns the actuator on only when the system in operation. This reduces operating costs and saves energy.

Control all directions with a single device

Vibrations in all directions can be controlled by two AMDs installed crosswise. The stable vibration control effect can be attained with several devices for buildings with inconsistent vibration direction or shapes especially subject to torsional vibration

Quite operation

The laminated rubber bearings as vibration-isolators prevent vibration and noise from transmitting to lower floors.
