My secret garden

You looked into the depths of my soul
and were blind to the child inside

I called from deep, dark, drowning pits
but you closed your ears to my cries

I stood a man before you
with my breast exposed to your voice

An offering I made willingly
long before you understood the choice

Into my healed forgotten wounds
you plunged your careless words

How was I to know the dangers
when alarms were never heard?

You allowed a glimpse of Paradise
then banished me from that place

I roamed my desert endlessly
searching for your grace

The love still pounds within my chest and at times I know not why
you allowed your empty words to butcher, empty actions you denied

But in my secret garden my roses I still grow
hoping, wishing, maybe the truth one day I’ll know.

You live your life just once I’m told, only given one chance it seems
So in my secret garden is where I’ll harvest my secret dreams
