She leads you too the weyr stables and to a stall near the far side of the weyr. "Katiana" a
load male voice booms, "You’re late!" You can now see the head of the stable, Mikar.
"Sorry Sir." Katiana mutters. "I had a guest." he now looks surprised and see’s you for a
the first time. "Oh, well, I guess that is all right then, but you should not keep me and
Fog Mist waiting."
Katiana keeps her head down and says nothing. Quickly she saddles Fog Mist and after a short
struggle puts her bridle on. She leads him out into a small paddock, you and Mikar
following right behind. While Katiana is mounting up Mikar whispers to you,
"She is better then she believes herself to be, but I wouldn’t tell her that. She’s made a lot
of progress I think."
Katiana and Fog Mist are walking around the paddock now. "All right Katiana, lets do a trot."
Katiana nodded to show that she understood and started to trot. With out warning Mist
started to go faster and picked up a canter, bucking a little playfully.
"Lean back Katiana, grab mane!" called Mikar loudly. Katiana leaner back and regained
her balance, and Mist stopped and she promptly lost it again and fell over her head.
You run to reach her but Mikar is quicker. She is all ready sitting up and it looks as if she
only had the wind knocked out of her. Flame Dancer is sitting there looking as innocent as her
can, looking at him Katiana laughs.
"One day I’ll beat you old boy, one day." She rises
slowly and mounts up again looking determined.
"See what I mean?" Mikar asks you. "Any other of my students would have sold that
runner to the meat factory for doing that to the, but she just laughs it of and is determined
not to let it happen again. She didn’t even strike the runner."
You see what Mikar means. Mikar continues,
"You know that runner is a little devil, not the type for a beginner, but she has learned in
weeks what many learn in years. I wonder what will happen to Mist if she impresses." you
think you know the answer and so does he.
"She’ll keep riding him and loving him, that’s all." Mikar says softly.
You relize you have been here much to long and wave good bye to Katiana as you go to
continue exploring this weyr.
