The hall was echoed in silence that evening, and the only sign of life down the corridor was the barely visible movement of the blood red curtains that blew in the dustings of snow coming through the open windows. It was a cold night, colder than most here, though the inhabitants could not feel the cold eating away at their conditioned skin. They stood tall and proud, unmoving and silent as toy soldiers lined up guarding whatever lie at the end of the corridor. And when the door at the entrance opened, a gust of freezing wind blew in, and all the motionless guards turned their heads in synchronization to see a small green figure enter the hall. He was dressed in the usual armor or red and black, with a scouter over his left eye, and though there were traces of snow across his green shoulders, he looked as though he did not notice. Warily, he made his way past all the guards, who glared at him with piercing black eyes as he passed through the hall to the doors of the throne room. The huge door at the end was guarded heavily with the largest of the guards, and they stared down at the green creature with unreadable expressions, not moving, holding their weapons in the ready position.
He held up an envelope, carrying an official document, stamped with the royal Council stamp. “I have a message for Sukuashi. I must enter immediately.” He lowered his voice slightly. “It’s about him.”
The eyebrows of all the guards rose immediately and they stepped back, revealing the large wooden doors to the throne room. Raising his nose slightly in the air, the green creature, shoved the doors opened with annoyance and continued on into the room, holding the envelope proudly at his side. The door shut tightly behind him with a resounding bang. The room was surprisingly dark, and the creature fought to see clearly, squinting in the darkness. The only traces of light were coming in through the dark red curtains, sunlight reflecting off of the snow that lie outside the walls. In a beam of light, just barely, he made out the features of Sukuashi, who sat regally on his throne, staring down at him with a bored look on his face.
He was the leader of the people, and his rule was rarely, if ever challenged. During the course of his leadership, the economy had been pulled back to it’s normal state, instead of poverty. Far more servants than ever had been inducted, and they were gaining wealth quite quickly; however, they still remained on that god forsaken planet, where the temperature was far below zero and snow was perpetually falling on the city streets. And Sukuashi did not like it. In fact, he hated it. Among the many things he did not like were: cold weather, any form of housework, the leaders of the past, and he held a particular disdain for his wife, and females in general. Saiya-jin females were usually ugly, full of muscles, and a little to manly for his taste, and the fact that they swarmed around him like drones during breeding seasons made him absolutely sick.
Koronu, his wife, had been different from the rest, a black sheep among the other females. Instead of the usually too sharp features and the unfailing snarl they usually wore on their faces, Koronu had soft features, and a pretty blood red mouth that was seemed to always pout, not snarl. He had picked her out of the thousands that wanted him, while they were still residing on Vejiita, and though she was reluctant to be his mate, she had no choice. And when everything fell, and they escaped Vejiita to live on this new and un-accepting planet, Koronu was ordered to follow, and she did. She gave birth to two children in the years that followed, and everyone was surprised that she was able to handle the birthing with less trouble than most females. It was only until his recent discovery of certain things about his wife that he began to hate her, and the more his hatred showed, the less submissive she became, and her true insolence showed through. Now, because he refused to be with her, she had attacked the Council with evidence that Sukuashi was plotting to destroy the planet, and everyone on it. The Council had warned him that any threats to Koronu’s well being or any odd, out of place activities, would be noted as further proof of his plot, and he would be sentenced to death.
He hated that woman. A scowl deepened across his handsome face, and his hands clenched the arms of the throne tighter, as he glared at the servant with an angry expression.
“My lord, I have found him.”
Sukuashi’s expression didn’t change, but the eyes hinted at an interest. He spoke softly, to keep the angry edge out of his voice. “You are positive this time? It is really him and not another false lead?”
The creature opened the envelope and unfolded the document, holding it up with a proud smile on his face. “I have here a signed document from a servant of Freezer who claims that both Vejiita and Kakarroto are alive and living on the planet Earth. This was only a few years past, and he claims that if they are as strong as they were when he last saw them, they should still be living.”
He glared. “So what you are trying to tell me is that you have no proof at all? You are basing this find on hearsay?” The tone of his voice sharpened with every word and the creature backed up slightly, his smile faltering.
“The source is very reliable, sir, and I feel it is the truth. The only way to check for sure that Kakarroto is there would be to travel to Earth ourselves.”
Sukuashi felt his eyes travelling past the creature, to the corner of the room, where a shadow was slinking about, deviously coming closer to the throne where he sat. The shadow did not alarm him, for he knew what, or rather who, that shadow was, so he payed no attention to it, glancing back down at the ugly servant before him.
“This document I have contains all the information we have about him, which I secured for a reasonable price from my source.” He rambled on, still feeling rather proud of himself.
“You payed for this information?” Sukuashi questioned, and glanced up at the shadow, which was rapidly approaching them once more.
The creature nodded. “The deal could not have been made without some sort of compensation.”
The shadow appeared behind the green creature then, forming into the shape of a person, through the beams of light coming in from outside. The creature turned around quickly letting out a squeal of surprise as he stared at the girl standing behind him. She smiled.
A beam of light escaped from their hand and shot through the green creature’s heart instantly, and he fell to the floor, still singing and shaking slightly. The hand of the girl turned delicately, and was brought up to cherry red lips in a mocking of shock.
“Oh dear. What have I done?” The feminine voice uttered quietly, feigning concern. The figure stepped out from the shadows and bowed in front of Sukuashi slightly. “Father.”
He smiled slightly, the right edge of his mouth going up higher than the left. “If you keep that up, we will have no servants left.”
The girl put her hands on her small hips and glared at him with dark eyes. “I have to keep my skills in tact, do I not? In any case, I do think we should make that trip to Earth. I would take great joy in killing him.”
Sukuashi stood to his feet and brushed the blood red cape back from his shoulders. “As would I. There are several ships standing by on call. If you wish to coming along, you may.”
The throne room doors opened with a bang and another female entered the room, seething with anger, dragging the dead body of a guard behind her with ease. There was blood splattered across her beautiful face and her cape and clothing were ripped and blood stained in several places. She threw the body across the floor and it slid across the smooth surface, landing at the feet of Sukuashi and slumping motionless.
“Did you hire him?!” She demanded. “To kill me?!”
He looked surprised momentarily, then kicked at the body with the toe of his boot. “Koronu, go back to your room. This is none of your concern, woman.”
“None of my concern? You hired out another guard to kill me in my sleep. How is it not my concern?” She cried, clenching her blood stained fists at her sides. “The Council will hear of this, Sukuashi. You can count on that.”
The younger girl sneered. “Shut up, mother. You always did talk too much for your own good. Father and I have important business to attend to.” She turned and walked away from the throne room, dark eyes glaring fiercely at her mother.
Sukuashi stood still for a moment, and then drew his hand back and slapped Koronu across the room in seconds out of fury. She landed near the opposite wall, falling in a heap on the cold floor as he stood there shaking a fist in her direction. “How dare you question my authority? Insolence is not acceptable.”
Koronu spat blood from her mouth and glared up at him while pushing herself up from the ground. “Neither is murder, Sukuashi. Not even for you. The Council will never let you get away with killing me.”
He turned his back on her and began walking slowly out of the room, his cape trailing behind him. “I have others to kill first, my dear mate, but you will die soon enough.”
