Finally the tour had ended and Nick and Nerine were on the flight home to Tampa. They arrived in Tampa early in the morning and set our straight away to do some shopping. ‘Okay well now a completely unfurnished uneverythinged house and we have to keep in mind that we have to shop some stuff for the baby too. Not to mention my doctors appointment at two.’ ‘Yeah it’s okay we’ll get it all done don’t worry it’s gonna be fine.’ ‘I know it will be.’ ‘Okay so lets hit the shops…come to think about it where’s Alex now.’ ‘Yeah your telling me he’s like the first guy I’ve met that likes shopping.’ ‘Hey am I complaining?’ ‘No but trust me by the time we get to the third shop it’ll start.’ ‘Ah shut up.’
Nick and Nerine shopped for everything from a lounge suite to a kettle. Still not having done all the shopping they needed to the two of them set off to Dr. Verene’s office for Nerine’s appointment. ‘Morning doc.’ ‘Afternoon Nerine and I suppose this is the daddy.’ ‘Yeah that’s me.’ ‘Glad to see you two have sorted out your problems.’ ‘Yep.’ ‘Well you know the drill so lets go.’ ‘Okay coming.’
Nerine lay down on the bed thingy and watched the screen and the image of the baby started to appear. She could feel Nick’s grip tighten on her hand as he saw the baby move. ‘Well now would you look at this?’ ‘What?’ ‘It’s turned around maybe it was waiting for daddy to be here before it lets us know what it is. You two wanna know the sex?’ ‘Yeah I wanna know it. Nick?’ ‘Yep me too.’ ‘Okay your having a boy.’ ‘I told you.’ ‘Yeah you did I’m happy.’ ‘Well he looks healthy although there is one thing that’s strange.’ ‘What?’ ‘Have you been urinating a lot recently?’ ‘Yeah howcome?’ ‘It’s just that he’s already starting to move down and it’s still almost 4 months before he’s due.’
‘What exactly are you trying to say doc?’ ‘I’m saying that he’s gonna come sooner that what we thought. He will be premature that’s for sure but if I had to predict I’d say we’re looking at a birth date of about January or February.’ ‘Seriously?’
‘Yep. It won’t be anything major if he does come early because he’s well developed his lungs are fine his reproductive system is fine heartbeat is good. He’s all well and ready for birth but it’s just unusual for babies to come so far ahead of their due date.’ ‘So there’s like not a chance that if he’s born early that he’s gonna die or something like that?’
‘Not at all no, well in light of this I’m gonna have to see you more frequently now and your gonna need stronger pre-natal vitamins to get you ready for birth and to get him ready too. So just make an appointment for Friday and then we’ll see how he is then okay.’ ‘Okay doc thanks.’ ‘Pleasure and here are your vitamins.’ ‘See you Friday.’ ‘See you. Bye Nick.’ ‘Bye doc.’
Driving back to the shopping center Nick looked over at Nerine rubbing her stomach. ‘What’s the matter?’ ‘He’s kicking you wanna feel?’ ‘Yeah.’ Nick put his hand on her stomach and felt the baby kicking against her. ‘Well that’s his official nickname now.’ ‘What?’ ‘Kickers. I’m telling you he’s gonna play football.’ ‘Oh Lord here we go. Father turns kid into mega jock I can see it already.’ ‘What’s wrong with him being a jock?’ ‘Nothing it’s just…have you thought about what we gonna call him?’
‘Damn I dunno we’re gonna have to think about that and seeing as how he’s making our time shorter we’re gonna have to think fast too.’ ‘Yeah I was quite shocked when Greg said that I mean damn we were still thinking we have time till April to get the house right and everything and now we only basically have a month, it’s December now so yeah we don’t have a lot of time to waste.’ ‘Yep. Well we’re here.’ The two of them got out of the car and re-entered the shopping mall to complete their massive shopping spree that they started that morning. Eventually at about 9:30 that evening they got home to their hotel room.
