~*~More Than That~*~

Chapter 6

Carol kept looking through the newspaper, but still could not find an apartment.
"Damn!" Carol said loudly. A.J. heard it all the way in the kitchen. Carol was in the living room. For a small woman, she sure got a strong voice. A.J. thought as he laughed at her. He walked in the living room.
"What's wrong?" A.J. asked.
"I can't find a stupid ass job," Carol answered.
"I still don't understand why you quit your last one anyway. It had good pay," A.J. stated.
"You don't understand. I quit because Scott... Forget it. I don't want to talk about it," Carol said she turned back to the newspaper. "Speaking of jobs, what do you do anyway?"
"That's not important now. I want to know what happened last night," A.J. said.
"Like I said before. I really don't want to talk about it. Plus, it's a long story," Carol said.
"I've got all night. I have the day off tomorrow," A.J said. Carol remained silent. Her eyes began to water. "You know, it's always best to talk about something instead of keeping in inside," he stated.
"Do you really want to know?" Carol asked. He nodded. "Well you know my boyfriend, Scott. Well about 6 months ago, he lost his job. He started to drink. As time went on, he drank more. He started to abuse me, mentally first. He started to call me a slut, whore, bitch, and all the other things." Carol began to cry. "Then he started to hit me. The other night, when we, me and you, ran into each other. That night he had... " Carol began to cry louder as A.J. hugged her. Carol looked at him. "That night, he raped me," Carol finished.
A.J. hugged her even tighter as she cried on his shoulder. As he hugged her, anger began to build inside of him. How could someone do this to her? A.J. thought. Scott has to be put behind bars. I have to make sure he never does this to anyone again, especially Carol. He looked down at Carol. She had fallen asleep. He took a strand of her dark brown out of her face. He carried her to the room she slept in the other night.
